I couldn't resist...before I head off to bed for some much needed sleep I've grabbed a sample of the red frames from Mars last night and quickly processed them though registax.

You can safely say that this is the minimum standard for the images from last night...I've never seen such superb seeing. Remember that Mars was only at about 40 degrees altitude...

This is only 300 frames stacked...

More tomorrow...

Fantastic stuff - when the seeings good it's just like hitting the sweet spot. Especially impressive given Mars can't be that high above your horizon... cheers, Robert T

G'day John, I grabbed another couple of hours sleep on the way home - err, after stopping, of course :-) - so I didn't get home until about 7.30pm, but there were a few work-related things that I had to sort out, lucky for me they were on pc's in WA so I had until 8pm Canberra time before they closed for the day :-)

Nice looking red channel, will look forward to your complete images. I suspect that if we had stayed up a little later on Saturday night up in the ranges we would have gotten similar images. We packed up too early. I think you guys got the good seeing we had on Saturday night. Well done.

Anthony just out of interest and a little off topic, when you were using the Toucam years ago; did you remove the filter inside the camera when using the IR/UV cut filter? The filter I am referring to is the one that sits directly over the sensor. I have nto removed it and wonder if this will make a difference to my shots. It only just occurred to me to try this.

G'day Paul - no I never removed that filter. I didn't know about it for a long time, and now I've given my ToUcam away so I can't try it...
