Hi all,

Here is an untracked widefield shot of the LMC from a camping trip on the weekend. This is a combination of 11x30 sec exposures with a tripod-mounted K100d, 50mm lens at f/2.0, 800iso (plus 6 dark exposures). Stacked in DSS, and adjusted in PS7.

There was quite a bit of haze around (see the sunset photo in this thread: http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=50807 ) and therefore the transparency wasn't great, so I'm quite surprised how much detail I captured. I could probably improve the image with some more adjustments in Photoshop - what do you think?

Thanks for looking!

Cheers,
Stephen

That's pretty good Stephen for the amount of exposure you gave it.
Yep, real good.

Thanks Jeanette. I didn't do any more exposures on this one because I was saving batteries for a go at an Orion widefield later in the night or the following night. Unfortunately the haze got much worse so I ended up not taking any Orion shots. Hopefully next time I'll get a chance!

Cheers,
Stephen

Great pic stephen!!
I envy you, as I can not yet find the LMC. Yeah I know :screwy: .

Can't wait till I do, as without a tracking mount this would be a good target..

Very nice widefield image. I'm really starting to enoy the detail which can be colleced in widefield images but the processing adds it's own complications.

Well done.

Thanks Mitchell and Doug.

Wait till you get out to a dark sky Mitchell - thay really stand out!

Yes, I know what you mean Doug. I'm still very much a beginner at the processing side of things, and I'm sure that others could get much more out of the data in this image!

Cheers,
Stephen
