Lamington National Park

Hi all,

I took the family on another camping trip this weekend - 2 nights at the Green Mountains campground on the Lamington Plateau. There was lots of smoke and dust, mostly down in the valley on Friday night (see sunset photo below), and it got progressively worse over the weekend. I still managed to get a widefield shot of the LMC though, which I'll post in the Deep Space forum. The other images are from a couple of bushwalks the rainforest.

Wow – that is a dusty sunset shot from the camp site! I’m surprised you managed to get a tent site with the school holidays, as it fills up very quickly unless you book ahead via the QPW webpage. Nice to see some water in the creeks – did the place still look green?

I think the last time we were there, the bird feeding had become more controlled to protect the birds from the over zealous feeding habits of the visitors!

You're right, the campground was pretty much full. I'd booked a tent site about 3 weeks ago, and even then I only just managed to get the last available site!

The area around the campground was still green, but not as lush as I was expecting. We took the kids down to Picnic Rock and not surprisingly it was much wetter down there.

Here's another quick shot of an Satin Bowerbird's bower. This one had collected lots of blue items from the nearby campground to impress the girls! He was sitting above me while I was taking the photo, but flew off when I pointed the camera at him.

Hi Stephen

I was feeling a little guilty when I grabbed this series of shots, late in the afternoon, as a Japanese visitor, accompanied by a local guide, had been sitting patiently for a couple of hours with a Canon pro body, a Wimberley Head and a whopping big 500mm F4L and the male bird refused to come down!:(

As we were returning from the café area, I had the 40D and 70-200 fitted and the bird fluttered down and did a bit of renovation for a couple of minutes and then shot off again. Alas, our Japanese visitor had left by then!
