I took these pictures on the 25th of September (Without exposures) with my 305mm Skywatcher Collasible Dobsonian. I used a 4 megapixel Olympus Camedia D-545 zoom with the 'auto' setting on.The images show the Moon in a 25mm and 10mm eyepieces. I also have one picture of Jupiter in the 10mm eyepiece. The seeing was roughly 8/10 and the time was 6:30PM. The shots of the Moon around the terminator show quite a lot of detail. Jupiter show less detail, however you can still make out the cloud bands. Any advice is welcome and I would also want to know about any free photo processing software.

hi sean,

some nice pictures of the moon for a 4 mp camera.

your jupiter shot, is it one frame shot ,if so how did you capture it?

i think that your jupiter shot is too sharpened.i did a repro and just put down the sharpness and voila. Hope you don't mind.

i think it brought out more detail . what do you think?

nice work

Nice shots!! Massive too, with great details...

I use Gimp, as it's free. I just ran a couple, of your pics through it and they came up a treat. Lots of detail to bring out in them.

keep 'em coming!!

The images are a little bit blurry because I had to hold the camera to the EP.

Those are amazing for how you captured them. I also like the 2nd moon shot. You can feel the depth in that shot. Very nice, Sean.

Im really amazed at how well they turned out for a 4 mega pixel digital camera:). The depth is a one in a hundred shot for me as I have no camera mount:(.

When I was using a PS camera I would do anything possible to get the camera to the height of the eyepiece. Get a table then some boxes, then put a towel on top when your at the right height... Manipulate the towel to hold the camera next the eyepiece...
Struggle with this method for a few weeks, then go buy yourself a mount... ;)

Wouldnt you have to move the table every time the moon moves?

Great images - image 2 looks like a famous sketch by Galileo - just the way he saw it all those years ago - very cool!
