Hi guys,

I'm tempted to buy this:

as part of the future plans for guiding etc. I have a EQ6PRO + Equinox 100 OTA. I'm not entirely sure how this is attached to my current setup. This is what I presume:

1) my OTA has tube rings. The top part of the tube rings has some threaded holes

2) tube rings from the Orion shorty guiding package listed in the link above screw into the threaded holes on my Equinox's OTA.

3) the top section of the Orion shorty tube rings has the dovetail attached to it

4) Orion shorty guide scope is attached to the dovetail

Am I right? Or am I barking mad lol!

Gday Dave, I'm sorely tempted to get one of these as well and was in Bintel yesterday eyeballing the unit. The dovetail bar of the shorty would bolt onto the top of your primary rig's tube rings threaded holes.

If you get this Dave, swap the nylon screws in the guide rings with metal ones and get rubber caps/boots for them. The nylon ones tend to flex too much under the weight when pointing upwards.

I stuck one on top of my C8 (ASGT) and had to add another counterweight. A side-by-side might be a better move. I know someone who has done the side-by-side with the ST80 kit on a Losmandy. He's happy.

The Bintel guys quickly sorted out the right bits to make them work for both of us.

SbS is my standard setup though it can be a greater challenge to balance initially.

Thanks guys! I'll have to check out the Nylon screws etc. I'm not sure what you mean by rubber caps/boots though, Paul.

Just some sort of protective cover to go over the end of the screws to prevent them scratching the surface of the scope.

Ahh. I'll check it out when I get it. Yes, I succumbed...I ordered the Orion shorttube 80mm kit, and the televue 32mm plossl, and also the astronomic uhc-e filter. I'm a bad bad boy...next pay I might lash out at a Orion guiding unit...I *really* want to get better at imaging. :-)
