rc8 vs williams

I was thinking of buying telescope ota in the next couple of mouths and wondering witch one would suit my losmandy gm8 mount .and need some suggestions on witch one. Gso rc8 or williams ota

They are two VERY different telescopes mate.. Which William Optics scope are you considering? The one in the picture is the FLT98, which is quite a bit more expensive than the GSO RC...

What do you plan to use the scope for?

If for imaging:
Do you prefer wide field views, or close up shots?
If wide field - Get the FLT98.
If Close Up - Get the RC8.

If for visual observing.
Get neither..

Please provide more information with what you intend to do with the scope. Its very much horses for courses, whilst both the scopes you have posted pics of are very good, they are good at different things..

Overall quality, and suitability for your mount, the FLT98 is probably a better option.

Hi Shane,
I think the load carrying capacity of a G8 is ~10kg. Based on this, you should be ok with either the 8" RC (~7kg) or the WO scope (~4kg). If however you want to start imaging (ie, add a camera & guide scope) then you may start to run into capacity problems with the RC.

The FLT98 with a guide scope will come in fairly light, but even piggyback will be borderline on that mount once you add in the weight of cameras, etc. Your best bet if you have to stay with that mount is to use a self guiding camera.

The Losmandy GM8 will EASILY carry 15kgs for photographic work.. The FLT98 + Guider, cameras etc will be no problems on the GM8...

On your GM8, despite it holding a good amount of weight, you will not want a very long scope... for that mount, I would recommend you keep to within say, 100mm F/7 or there abouts for your imaging scope. The FLT98 would probably be the best, the GM8 may handle the FLT110, however they are a very big refractor when you see them in the flesh.. I dont know how the GM8 would handle the length...
The FLT98, Megrez 90, Megrez 102 (if you can get one) or the Megrez 88 would be your best choices from the william optics line up.. The order in which I've listed them is the same as the order of price, highest to lowest, and also the same as the order in which they would be on my preferred scope list..

I had one of those around this time last year, its quite a good scope, excellent value for money..

I've used an FLT110 on my GM8, with a skywatcher 70x700 guidescope mounted on top, and 350D, several times without problem. the mount easily handles the weight/length. :thumbsup:

And just furthering this, if you elected to get the FLT98, it is available in the CF tube too.

I can't remember to be honest. I suspect it wasn't, it was probably my Megrez 80 or Megrez 90 APO. :confused2:
