All,

Some quite good seeing late last night for a short while, here is an
image showing some detail around the Oval BA complex, there's quite
a bit of activity there.

This image is a little more contrast-enhanced than normal, to highlight
some of the subtle details. Comments are welcome as to whether this is
better or worse than
my normal, somewhat lighter processing.

The detail seems stronger yet it seems very natural and smooth.
If this is a new technique you are using , in my humble opinion, I like it.

One of the very best I've seen this apparition, Bird. A fantastic world of detail in the south polar region. I like the extra contrast in the processing - not overdone at all and very smooth.

I've come back to this image numerous times and I see different detail each time! Dont know what to say as regards old vs new. If I'm enhancing one area only of an image I tend to use masks in PS.... but theres no over processing visible so whatever your doing is working great. What did you do different.

Stunning work Anthony. I tried last night but had terrible seeing as usual. I don't know what's going on here this year.. the NW winds just give me bad seeing on this side of the mountain i'm on.

I like the contrast enhanced version and it doesn’t look over cooked so although you may have pushed the data, on my screen it still looks pleasingly natural.

Thanks for the comments. Most of the processing is the same, ie wavelets then deconvolution then unsharp masking in the Gimp, but the change for this image was a little bit more work with the curves adjust (ie gamma) to darken the image and enhance contrast.

Another outstanding piece of work.
Anthony, you are clearly the leading planetary imager in this country and one of the best in the world.

I am not worthy to offer a critique on your work, however I do have very strong views on what I like and what I dislike in the processing of planetary images.

Undoubtedly many over process ordinary data, that said I would raise two points regarding processing.

Processing images for aesthetic appeal compared to processing images for scientific evaluation.

Let me say that prior to meeting you I was of the opinion that this was pretty black and white, but after seeing your work I came to believe an image can have aesthetic appeal and still satisfy the requirements of scientific evaluation.

I have never seen an image of yours that has been over processed and I think you are on track to refine your regime to highlight the detail and structure even better than previously.

This latest effort, which is outstanding, is not even remotely overdone, that is in my humble opinion. In fact I think there is even more scope to go a little further.

Looking forward to seeing your work evolve to an even higher level.

Thanks Trevor, I keep finding that I change my processing over time as I slowly learn what I like and/or what not to do...

The biggest challenge is always capturing good quality data, the better the data the more flexibility you have to choose how to process it.
