Hi All,

Slowly learning how to use the G11 and the RC8. This one needs much more data, but the weather is not co-operating.

NGC 55, GSO8RC, SBig ST-10XME, CFW10, AOL, MOAG.

60 minutes (6 x 10 min subs) L, 30 (6 x 5 min) each or RGB binned 2x2.

Looks like a bit of vignetting there? did you use flats?

Are you happy with the GSO 8"RC?

Great detail indeed! In my experience, you wont experience vignetting with the GSO RC and an ST10, although my imaging train did not have a filterwheel, MOAG or AO... Alll of that COULD cause vignetting, although, again, given the size of the KAF-3200ME sensor, I wouldnt think so..

Good image Stuart, Looking forward to seeing more from the 8" RC + ST10 combo! (I miss my 8" RC and ST10.. :( )

Hi Mike,

No time to do flats yet!

Would have been obvious if I had have posted the version with the dust donuts all through it. Simply raised the black point, so that's why it seems to have vignetting. Like I said, it needs more data.

Yes I think with a little fine tuning this scope is a good one for imaging from suburbia.

Alex, I suspect that the 1.25" filterwheel will probably start to vignette, I have also positioned an LPR 1.25" filter just behind the MOAG, in front of the filterwheel (so I don't have to guide through it).

This came out rather nicely Stuart. Would improve with a bit more exposure and maybe some Ha added to the red channel.

I think that this is on the right track. The RC8 seems to be working really well and the amount of detail gathered is fantastic.

Looks pretty good Stuart, but like you I am trying to work out how long each exposure should be. I really like the small fine detail you have captured there.

Hi Paul,

I use the Starizona CCD calculator to determine the exposure length. For instance these subs, the calculator says that the ideal exposure is about 3 minutes. One day I'll do a comparison of 3, 5 and 10 minutes subs on something faint to see how much detail is being lost.

Of course if you have dark skies...

That's a great image Stuart.

That RC scope holds a lot of promise once you get past the initial problems with them.

Tracking is perfect.

Why do you have a MOAG if you are using an AOL or is that so you can autoguide without having to go through filters? I thought that was really only an issue when using narrowband filters.

I take white T-shirt flats are dusk and it takes maybe 10 minutes at most. Depends on what the flats look like as far as how much they are needed. My TEC180 is very evenly illuminated even with the large 16803 chip. I try to keep my camera/filters clean to stop dust donuts. I usually don't have any or they are really minor. Do you have one of those hurricane blower bulbs? They are a really handy accessory, I use one constantly.
