This actually is a work in progress with the QHY8.
I took 14x5 min shots last night using an old Celestron C8 (orange tube) with a Lumicon focal reducer from the heart of Brisvegas with all its light pollution and that stupid tower with its 4 laser lights sweeping across the field of view every 5 seconds. Someone ought to boil that cretin in crushed scorpion juice for being such a moron in this time of saving energy, year of astronomy etc etc :mad2::mad2::screwy:(rant off).
The scope has no coatings etc but it gave me the scale I wanted. Im going to gather more data next weekend to smooth it more as well as using a 10" to get more inner detail in the galaxy. Processed levels and curves in PS with no sharpening as yet.
I'd like to thank the QHY users (and others) that gave me tips on flat fielding as it really has cut down on my learning curve.

Looks pretty dam good Allan. With all you plan to add to this it should end up being a very, very nice final image. Good luck with it all.

Nice shot, Allan:D:D

Yeah, Steve Ackery...been sniffing too much of his shampoos and hair products, plus the government ought to be raked over the coals for letting it happen. Talk about hypocrisy, ban people using laser light pens and they get the bright idea of doing this. That's politicians for you.

Marc, Cal and Doug. Thanks for the encouragement. This will be a long term project as I hope to get more detailed subs and then assemble a mosaic made using my DSI and a 10"SCT guided at 2500mm and putting it all together for as much detail as I possibly can muster.

Yes, I was devastated when I found that my wife had booked our holiday at the same time as Asrofest. NOOOOOOOOO WAY is it happening next year, I've ripped out and blanked out the days for next year on the calender.
