Hi,
Why not post this. I am planing on getting my son one of the celestron IYA scopes for Christmas. I can only imagine the thrill he will get. He was loving his latest scope as he took me on a guided tour of the heavens with this one.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for posting this story and pic of your son. It is wonderful to see youngsters still getting that same thrill that most here probably had when we were young.
My parents bought me my first 60mm refractor (Tasco 66T) at I think 9 or 10 years old. I went away from Astronomy at about 15 then came back with a vengeance at 23 years old and it has been a big part of my life since. Met lots of my great life long friends as well as many very interesting people.
Keep the encouragement up and I am sure that you will both benefit heaps from it in the years to come.
PeterM.
Classic, such an imagination.

Hi Mark & All,
And to think I complain about how tricky dobson's hole is to negotiate in a dobsonian telescope ...

At age 8 or 9 I built a rough as guts astrolabe as best I could from pics in a book, 'cause I couldn't afford a telescope then. Don't remember what I did with it but felt good I had some sort of instrument, either way it led to a telescope. To me a few pieces of pipe that you can sight through and get a bit of excitement is just dandy until that big scope arrives at Christmas - only 102 sleeps to go!
