Don't have to look that far back. I remember in the news a large "block of ice" going through a residential home roof in Belgium. Coppers, fire brigade , hazmat etc... When they got on site it kinda started smelling and they figure out it broke out from the "exhaust" of a jet liner.

With about 51,006,560,000,000 cubic meters of atmosphere to play with (earth's area multiplied by 100km (the Karman Line)) I'd hardly worry about a few dozen astronaut's-worth of anything.
