This is 13x10min in Ha at prime focus on my 5" newt. Might be a candidate for a mosaic as there's a lot more of other interesting stuff in the area. I'll definitely try to do a colour version. Skies were pretty pathetic tonight in Western Sydney. Lots of smoke - when it's not sausage sizzles it's back burning - but again Ha saved the day. I'll have to add more data tomorrow night. :)

There's a full frame at: http://www.multiweb.com.au/astro/NGC6188_ha_f.jpg [2.9MB]
Thanks for looking.

That's wonderful Marc. Lovely sharp detail and nice processing. Would love to see a colour version of this. :)

John Gleason look out! The frog Marc Aragnou is coming after you!

How much fun is a Halpha filter huh? woohoo

As I have said before Ha only images are great by'em selves, who has to have colour anyway? right Alex? :P

See Mark, you should have come up to Crago last night. The prevailing wind was NW, so the smoke bypassed us, leaving us with beautiful clear skies and a good view of the bushfire 10km away as well.

Nice photo though.

That is a beautiful image Marc. There's some really good detail in that shot, especially considering all the smoke haze that was around Sydney last night ! Half the sky was blocked from our place for a while - hopefully it will be better tonight !

Great image Marc, incredible detail.

It's a very interesting object - looks a bit like a pair of hands and the nebulosity in the bottom right looks like it's been platted.

Thanks Matty - I don't think I'll have time for an RGB blend, too late in the season, but I'll try to fit in some more Ha and Oiii so I can do a HaHaOiiiOiii blend.

Thanks Mike. That's right, all my original NB pictures turned out green... Must be built-in ;)

Thanks Trev. Would have loved too but I got stuck working around the house and by the time I was done, too little daylight left to do the trip. I hate setting up in the dark.

Thanks David. Up ahead wasn't too bad but when the sun set you could clearly see dark brown lanes of smoke everywhere, mostly west.

Thanks David - glad you like it.

Thanks Trevor. Yeah I got the carboni set of actions. They're great and I use them occasionaly. In this case I didn't. I feel I've pushed the data as far as I could without bringing up the noise considering 2h is still not much and the hazy conditions.

Thanks mate.

Thanks Peter. Yes the area is beautiful. I've seen some incredible shots both in RGB and narrow band.

Mighty nice Ha image Marc. My hats off to you.
May I ask what type/brand is the Ha filter (putting my shopping list together)

Very nice Marc, definitely a great candidate for adding some RGB. Nice amount of detail and contrast without blowing the image out.

Well done.

Thankd David - I use a 2" baader 7nm Ha filter.

Thanks Doug. More data will make it smoother. I plan to get some Oiii as I saw a HaOiii blend that was awesome om Tom Davis' website.

the 2" baader 7nm filter is in my opinion, something every serious nebula imager should have..

Fantastic image Marc, I love seeing this region, I'd love to give it a go sometime, however I think I've got enough mini-projects on my plate at the moment.. This might have to wait until next year.. Or maybe I'll get impatient.. :D

Thanks mate - it's a fantastic area. Shame I figured out too late where it was. It's going down fast now.

Love this one Marc - did you see ejcruz's synthetic RGB of this object?
Reckon you could grab some OIII data and do something similar, but with that multiweb touch!
Very nicely framed too.

Yep. I've seen his NB work. IMHO a tad too harsh in the sharpening but great shots in his gallery. I saw some pretty s**t hot shots In Tom Davis' gallery though so I'm trying to use those as a reference (still dreaming :P) .

What do you mean with "that multiweb touch"? Not enough green? ;)

Great shot Marc.

You got that twirling gas at the right hand side as well.

Thanks Greg  Not too sure what I got as I'm not very familiar with this object but if you say so it can't be bad :) I know there's a nice "S" shaped planetary out of the field at the bottom right that I intend to get on my next panel though.

Marc,

That is superb.

My eye, as Peter and Greg, have mentioned, went straight to the twirling ribbon. I shot this one a few years ago, but, it came out crap as it was so low on the horizon. I look forward to trying for it next season with the new gear.

To see what this incredible object looks like in all its glory, check out Martin Pugh and Robert Gendler's collaborative effort. It is a masterpiece.

Regards,
Humayun

A remarkable image Marc. You've really processed this data exceptionally well in particular in managing the highlights. Would be great to see some colour added as you suggest if you're up for the challenge. Keep up the good work.:)

Thanks Louie - much appreciated.

Thanks for the encouragement boss  I'll try to do some color later. What I'd really like to do is collect more Ha and try a large mosaic of the area, maybe 4 panels to start with. I played a bit with registar and scaffold frames lately. I love it. Bought a licence now. :)
