Hi,
First processing from a bag of goodies from last night.
Thanks for the company Alex, Baz ....I hope your night
ended up better.
The focus may have been slightly off on this set, captured
around 2-3am but seeing definitely spoiled it.
The night started out way better so my NGC 253 is still
promising.

Steve, better than anything I'm managing, keep at it. Focus does appear to be a bit off, but as you said, seeing can ruin things irrespective of how well you focus. Is this Ha or just mono?

Looks nice Steve! a touch of deconvolution could probably make it look more focused? hard to say...
Was a fun night last night.. I managed to get to bed by 7:15 am after sharing a coffee and a plate of eggs on toast with my old man :) haha..

Dave,
Mono only.
Alex, yes on the night a few different types of sharpening work
better or worse. It seems to be seeing dependent.
Good data responds very well to Laplacian sharpening.
Average data goes better with Unsharp mask.
No science here....I just do what works.
Here is NGC 253 from last night just after midnight.
Seeing was better, focus was better BUT it all got diminished by
the fact 253 is closer to the celestial equator than Tarantula (60s-ish)
Alex...get some sleep man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Sleep is for the week Steve... Weekends I have simply too much to get done to have more than 4~5hrs sleep. :)
That 253 looks fantastic! great detail in the dust lanes, stars look kind of big considering the resolution you regularly achieve. is this focus? or the seeing?
In any case, awesome work!

Yeah I can do this a few times even on a working week...but the catchup
sleep is usually an epic one!
Seeing mainly is the culprit here...obvious when viewing a sub frame.
Dialing the exposure back to 1 sec gets pinpoints again.
We can't have a winner night everynight....besides I think we would
kill ourselves from exhaustion!

Looks pretty sweet to me Steve. I've always found the tarentula hard to photograph. Very messy object. Stars everywhere, looks mostly like a bag of noodle, hard to focus.

You could say that.;)
I'm a zombie after last nights effort. Going to spend a delightful night tonight taking more wide fields while processing my images from last night.

Steve,
Once again, your NGC 253 is a corker.
I'm surprised by the amount of detail you pick up in those dust lanes. Amazing.

Humayun
