Hi All,

First light with the GSO RC!!

I choose to go to the planets, not because they are easy, but because they are hard. Apologies to JFK.

I know that RC's aren't supposed to be planetary scopes, but I had the DMK in it for drift alignment, and Jupiter was there abouts...

Blew me away with the quality...

Details;
8" GSO RC on G11 mount
DMK21AF04.As for luminance
Phillips SPC900NC for RGB
Combined in PS.

Cheers
Stuart

Hey, Stuart, if you can see a planet through a scope, then you can take it's piccie with one. One thing that annoys me is the snobbery that's in some quarters of the amateur astronomical community about what "type" of scope is best for what imaging. Sure, some scopes are better than others at doing different jobs, but that doesn't mean you can't take good images with the others...point "proven" right here. Great piccies, mate. Take more planetary shots with the RC, it's a great little scope:D

Beautifully sharp and clean. Well done! Seeing was pretty good early last night in Melbourne wasnt it?

The GSO RC takes fine planetary images if these are an example:)

Hi Stuart,

Agree with Carl, telescopes are pretty versatile pieces of equipment and there is no reason why any particular kind of scope cannot be used as seen fit by its owner.

You have some nice detail in these images, very crisp, you must have had some stable air to image through, not sure about the colour it looks washed out but that is such a subjective topic. The resolution that you have achieved would indicate the potential to try for more image scale.

Looks like this scope might get some further use as a planetary imaging instrument and maybe with a filter wheel and filters for some decent colour.

Very well done.
Regards
Trevor

Very nice detailed images Stuart. That scope has real potential for planetary imaging.

These are very interesting and good images, particularly given the number of comments which have been posted in recent months stating that these are more suited to DSO rather than planetary imaging.

Interesting indeed.

Very nice images from an 8" with a big central obstruction. Quite an eye opener. Subtle processing too - well done, Stuart.

Great images Stuart, these are the best RC planetary images I have seen, and I can say I have seen quite a few from people with RCOS versions.
