For the anime fans out there, or anyone wanting to get into (more of) it...

So, I am a big fan of Cowboy Bebop and decided to check out Samurai Champloo after reading a post in the "post a pic of yourself" thread.

Whilst I would not say it was of the same standard as Cowboy Bebop Samurai Champloo was still pretty good. The hip-hop theme was excellent and the ending was better than expected.

I would be interested to find out what your favourite anime is- TV series or movie.

Hellsing, followed closely by Tenjho Tenge and Bleach.

edit: Did you go to Supanova this year? I went to Brissies (my first time) and was AWESOME, got some good images as well!

That would have been my recommendation.

I'm not a huge anime fan, but, the premise and story of Samurai Champloo got me hooked from the very start.

I also enjoyed FLCL for its obscene randomness, and, Neon Genesis Evangelion. FLCL had a brilliant soundtrack -- I ended up purchasing the albums off eBay. The music was done by a Japanese rock group called The Pillows. They have made some very sweet music.

My first experience with anime, apart from Astroboy, was Akira, when it was released on VHS in 1987. At the time, it was the most expensive Japanese movie ever made. I remember watching it twice as a youngster, and it did not make any sense to me. It was released on DVD a few years ago and so I picked it up. Everything makes sense now, except the last 15 minutes. :eyepop:

Akira was surpassed by Princess Mononoke as the most expensive Japanese movie ever made.

Humayun

Akira- yeah. Saw it when it was released in Australia. did not like it much- did not get it at the time. revisited it a few years later and enjoyed it more...

Neon Genesis- never finished it. not for any reason but you know, you miss an episode here and there and next thing you know it is over. only a few episodes left and you have reminded me of it.

I will check out a few epidoes of FLCL.

david: I hear a lot about Bleach. I must check it out.
No, did not go to Supanova- i think i may be outside of the demographic...

nah, anyone can go to Supanova, it's a pretty cool event, great fun. Some people find Bleach a bit boring, stick with it, season 2 is pretty neat as Ichigo finds out more about being a Soul Reaper. Neon Genesis puts me to sleep, highly overrated. I got through the first 4 or 5 episodes and got bored and haven't watched it since. Every episode is the same. *yawn*. The Girl who leapt through time is a pretty good movie though, grab it if you can.

I'm still new to anime, but enjoying it.

i cannot recall the name of an anime, which had four girls as the main characters- in the police, and as usual kicked a$$. the first episodes one of the four was new... of course, that might cover a few anime... any ideas?

Star blazers, came out not long after g-force and the battle of the planets.

Robotech, the Macross saga
Ghost in the shell
The animatrix...I always feel surreal after watching that and thinking it through.
Quite enjoyed Final Fantasy, the spitits thingy...although CGI, does it count as anime?

Baz.

do you mean "sprited away"? it's animated and japanese so it counts.
it was only partly CGI anyway.

Robotech came out over twenty years ago...so long ago...
i am going to have to see how it all ended (did it end, eventually?).

No, I mean the Final Fantasy movie where the futuristic post-alien apocolyptic earth was looking for life force energy to complete the jigsaw that would neutralise the aliens..

Spirits within? Seven Spirits? I can't remember. Great CGI though.

that's right. wasn't that the film that everyone was raving about how realistic the girl's hair was? ah, the early days of CGI...
