I love the one I've got.. 1999 VT Series 2 Calais 5.7L V8... Its got every single thing I or anyone could ever want... (ie. Headlights turn on automatically when it gets dark, windscreen wipers automatically turn on when it detects rain, full electrics, dual zone climate control.. not to mention 300kW of raw V8 power under the right foot.)
However, my dreams for a car are somewhat more sedate than the ones shown here...
I would love..
A Nissan 200SX S15 JDM Edit.
SR20DET, 6spd Manual and $45,000 cash with which to add chassis bracing, roll cage, touch up the diff with a steeper ratio and a full spool, single 3.5" turbo back exhaust system, custom inlet and exhaust manifolds, HKS cam's, GT35/40R turbo, real big clutch, straight cut gears and a dogbox, big front mount intercooler, full new suspension setup, low and firm, and most importantly, willwood 380mm front discs, 290mm rears, 6 piston front callipers, 2 piston rears.. 100km to 0km in under 90m (at 2g's :eyepop: )
Oh, and a racing track with lots and lots tight turns, hairpins and a few long high speed sweepers...
Two words.. Drift - Car!
My last one was a 1996 Nissan 180SX Type-X.. engine/chassis/diff much like what has been outlined above.. It was an absolute dream to drive. enough power to make any rev head (me) happy, strong, stiff suspension, could take 90 degree turns at 90km/h without a worry (on the race track of course) brakes were sensational..

That's because more than 75% of the cars on the road are over 10 years old and all our power generation is via coal. Yet, for all that, we produced 0.15% of all emissions. China, India, Russia, Europe and the US have a lot to answer for...more so the US and China.

Or

Mind you my wife luuuurves the Veyron, so she could be pursuaded...

Awesome H.. Good to see a fellow drift fan on the forums... Someone labelled that video wrong though, that skyline is a 4 door.. they dont make 4 door GT-R's...
Ps. The R34 GT-R is the S15's big brother in cost and cylinders.. on the track I'd take an S series over an R series any day.. much better weight distribution.. they handle much nicer.. My old R32 GT-R was a great car, dont get me wrong, and the RB26DETT is a fantastically strong motor, but they are less than inspiring considering the cost. My 1992 GT-R cost me $29k, My 96 180sx type-x cost me $14k and the S14 180SX was faster around Queensland raceway after similar modifications despite being nearly 100kW less power...
DB9 would be nice.

Jason,
I have a BIG spot for GSXR's in all forms, everytime I see one I think of Peter Goddard and the work that he and Phil Tainton did to set Suzuki SBK on their ears, and in typical Japanese fashion they didn't get it anyway! But as far as production motorcycles went GSXR's paved the way and opened the doors for road friendly sports bikes.
Greg.
P.S. I bumped into Rod Sharp recently (suspension guy same team), the Japanese race team didn't want to listen to him either.

My favourite car has always been a 1955 Chevrolet Belair. You can keep your sporty junk they are rather impractical.
My present spare car is a 1990 Toyota Camry station sedan. Why! because it is so useful I can't afford to get rid of it. It pulls my caravan, trailer, Easily loads my telescopes, Train etc. It has a roof rack for carrying lengths of timber and steel and it does not need to be washed (except by the rain).

I'm still mourning the death 12 months ago of my namesake - a 1970 Mercedes 280 SE. Some called it a Mafia staff-car, others a bourgeoisie affectation. It was just fun and comfortable to drive, expensive to run and the replacement (a 2 door, Korean extrusion-like go-kart) just works all the time.

When i was in living in the USA briefly, i had a Corvette, what a drive, cornering wasnt great, but in a straight line it was a rocketship.
I must be honest though, and say i love my daily driver, my MX5, its not the fastest or best car about by any stretch, and its nothing fancy, but having the roof down on a sunny day, and downshifting, while going round 90 degree corners at 60k's effortlessly, is great fun

On a visit to the Melbourne Motor Show earlier in the year I fell hard for a Porsche Speedster that was in amongst the Shannons auction lots, if I remember clearly it was out at more than $100000.
I had a little Honda rice burner that was all kitted up as my second car about 5 years ago, (i'd been hanging out at Eastern creek race meets to much as a teen). I came to hate the attention i'd get in it and also the expense so I really dont have a dream car anymore, as long as it goes and preferably has frosty air con I couldnt really care what it is.

I'll agree with Leon about the SS.....6.0 litres of pushrod V8 goodness. Absolutley fantastic to drive, could do with a little bit more stiffness in the front supspension, but other than that it's great drivers' car.
Here's our baby, 2009 model, 6 speed manual and leather interior. Just waiting to add a few little modifications (like the suspension :D).

That is cool...a few years back when we were tearing down an old barn on one of my family's farms we discovered on old KG underneath a bunch of old tarps etc. No one seemed to remember where it came from...I was living in Australia when it was found...I haven't seen it yet and I don't even know the year but someday I will fix it up (or more likely have someone else do it for me) but it is at the "Home" farm now so it is only a matter of time and money now...Now to find that Shelby...We have few old barns left so who knows?
Like others, my dream car is the Bugatti Veyron.
More realistic(but still out of my price range!) is the R35 GTR
Even more realistic... a jet black Series6 RX7 (I'm too tall to drive one... I have tried)
More likely(with my pay packet) the new Mazda3 MPS

My daily drive is a Hyundai i30 diesel and we also have a Falcon XR6 which is primarily used as a tug for the caravan.
Our 'dream car' will be purchased when we retire - either a Toyota Prado diesel or a Toyota Land Cruiser diesel - when we hope to be 'on the road' full-time :)
My other part-time toy was a Honda VTR 1000 motorcycle, but it spent more time in the garage collecting dust that anything else, so I got rid of it.

Its a nice car, but i have never understood the fixation here with such huge engines. i am sure its nippy and fast etc. but apparently the carbon footprint created in Australia per capita, is the highest in the world.
My friends engine blew up last week, and he was really upset "whats wrong?" i asked him, knowing what was wrong, and giving him an opportunity to talka bout it, he replied "you know what this means? this means i have have to drive a four cylinder"
needs to say, i was disgusted.

Yea, I would only drive a 4cyl if it was being fed at least 18psi through a rather large turbo, with oversize fuel injectors pumping out probably twice the carbon emissions of a well tuned 8 cylinder..
Whats the fixation of a big motor... well.. up the high way, at 100km/h my V8 sits at around 1750 rpm.. Would this not be equally good/bad for the environment as say, my old 180SX that sat at 3300rpm at 100km/h??
Fixation on big engines.. Its the sound, the feel of the motor making steady power... Its briliant... There is no replacement for cubic displacement.. Nuff said.
Being a motorbike nut and a Beemer fan this is what I lust for.:P

When I was much younger I loved big engined fast cars. I once had a Holden V8 that was great to drive except on a wet road. Before speed cameras and speed limits I once covered 260 miles at an average speed of 96MPH from Toowomba to Narrabri. I have grown up now and if I had not wasted money on big cars I would be able to afford a metre telescope at my own dark site observatory.

Duncan,
Until UKTG and the Clakson comments, MX5's where rated as girls cars by a lot of blokes, You and I probably have the same list ie; gearbox, handling, wind in the hair, gearbox, handling, making resonable drivers better, gearbox etc etc.
Sadly in this country we are conditioned from an early age to believe that there is no replacement for displacement, the warning bells have been ringing for a long time now and Australian car manufacturers still dont hear them, nothing has changed apart from engines get bigger and production costs increasing.
Illuminating the future with brightly burning bridges.
Greg.
P.S. Whilst researching my MX5 I met a fellow who told me that I should get used to smiling more often because it was mandatory, and that the money I saved on fuel would soon be spent on sunscreen, a very wise man.
As a kid, I grew up with Sandown Park on my back door step and went to all the race meets and there was always 1 car that I wanted.

I once had an AP6 Valiant (1965), that went really well. The first car I owned to myself. Unfortunately the rust got into it so I traded it in for a new car 15 years ago.
Talk about a dream car, I've lost count of how many times I had a dream where I've found it (unfortunately no longer with the stereo I installed that would almost make the passengers ears bleed), and I've bought it back -redeemed from the wilderness !!!. And I'm really stoked to get it back. :cool:Then I wake up and realise it was only a dream. :(. I tell my wife who doesn't like Valiants and all she can say is "keep dreaming". Boy do I miss that car.
Back to the subject. My dream car would be a 2 door convertible cherry red '57 Chev Bel Air.

Yes, true, but the Bugatti has a LOT more HP, it would be expected to. I saw the car for the first time last night (a mate showed me) and to be honest, it looks damn well ugly as imho. I've got two dream cars, I own both...
The first one is an Alfa 105 GT Junior. It's the race car in my sig. Here's a picture of it all washed and packed ready for Sandown, tomorrow!!.
The next pic is what happens when the driver's ambition gets too far ahead of his ability (140kmh pit straight wall at Phillip Island).
The last is my daily driver, it looks like a pretty ordinary family sedan, but blows the doors off the Falcodores at lights, not that I'd do that of course...
As to the "no replacement for displacement" guys 'n gals, there is a replacement it's called grip and engineering.

None of your trendy euro cars for me, I'll have this one (http://www.webwombat.com.au/motoring/news_reports/holden-efijy-concept-car-of-year-2007.htm) please.

Nice one Phil. The 1964 Valiant in Australia was the AP5 (model before the AP6 I had). The AP5 - Ah yes very similar but main difference was it had push button auto. Not very popular with women who kept breaking nails changing gears, so I heard.:question:
Just FYI, the AP6 was released in the US as a Plymouth Barracuda. I've only seen one in Oz, and was impressed when I saw it.:D

My friend's son drives a Rolls Royce. I occasionally ride with him and make him wear a peak cap while I sit in the back!
