Hi everyone,

We spent a bit of time down by the Bay at Wellington Point on Sunday and caught this guy cruising the shallows. Does anyone know what it is?

Thanks for the ID Ron.

Thanks for your coments.

Was a bit of a jag really. We were walking to the Jetty when it flew overhead. I had the 70-200 on the 400D and tried to snap it on the wing at pretty well full zoom from memory. Bit of unsharp mask and "smart sharpen" for the motion blur in PS CS2, but not too dissimilar from what came out of the camera. Probably the 2 best from a short list of 4.

cheers! great stuff!

david i am very surprised you dont get birds of prey at birdland, considering how many easy tasty takeaway meals are on offer! not all BoP are the soaring obvious types, some, specially falcons and the like, are downright sneaky and VERY silent.

i had a grey gosh hawk land infront of me trying to take a pigeon but i didnt have a camera ready... I hear boobook owls just about every night but never see them, i'll go hunting for them when it gets warmer. I think i heard a barking owl the other night, or it could have been a dog. i heard nightjars one night too, but saw nothing. but nightjars a re pretty small...

thats the BoP experience of my area so far.
