Somewhere around Antares

Thought it was about time I pointed the 40D at the sky...

11x30sec lights, ISO 400 at f2.8 stacked in Registax and final processing in CS3.

I wasn't really sure what I was pointing at, but wanted to capture some of the Milky Way around Antares/Scorpio.

I'm aware of the image's downsides. There's a bit of star trailing when viewed full size. There's also a bit of blue fringing around some of the brighter white stars. And then there are other 'issues':whistle:

But the journey is underway to the 'other side'. I'll have to get the camera hooked up to my C9.25 at some stage.

Tips/advice are most welcome.

There's always that first image.....it's all downhill from here Matt.
Enjoy the ride.

The right hand third of your picture contains the Rho Oph. Complex.
You can make out the 2 streamers of dust sweeping upwards.

Yeah. I thought that's what it was. Just a different orientation from what I'm used to seeing it, and mine is not as close up:)

I'm looking forward to getting better at this. Might have to lay my hands on a 80 or 90mm refractor.

Downhill you say? I thought that was a weird analogy initially, usually it would be put as an "uphill battle" given the learning curve...

But then an image sprung to mind, of someone hurtling downhill at a 100miles/hour on a go cart, with a crash helmet, chattering teeth and hanging on for dear life... :scared: :rofl:

Certainly does look like the Anteres dust cloud. Good to see you moving to the dark side well done. It always help if you incorporate an identifiable object in the field.
