PST CaK launched

Just got my December issue of astronomy in the mail today.

Coronado have now started advertising the PST CaK..same price as the PST (US $499)

Houghy had heard this was on the cards some weeks ago, and posted here to that effect...the rumours turned out to be spot on

now for some user reviews

i would guess that we will be one of the last places to get one shipped to. Apparently they are already sold out in the US with back orders existing. Lets hope they are available by the end of the year? Hey Greg Bryant - get a review of this one please in the next mag!

I have to say that the H-alpha images are more dramatic... but thats prolly cause i dont know what i am looking at in the cal-k.

Yes, the Ca-Ks don't show the solar flares like the H-alphas do. Did you check out the mobile phone with the built in H-alpha solar camera? :scared2: How nerdy is that? :nerd:

I am not really sure about the Cak scope. I think the Ha images give a real sense to the volitility of the Suns surface. The purple of the CaK is somehow distracting. Not on my list of things to acquire.

the latest issue of the American Sky and Telescope has a review of the CaK PST

its almost useless for visual use,designed mainly for imaging

the review talks of imaging in H Apha, white light and CaK and combining the images..slightly different image scale though for the two PSTs

the reviewer had both PSTs side by side ..and was flicking back and forth with a Canon A85
