Brit plans to open Mad Max Museum in Silverton

Now 45 years old, Mr Bennett has decided to fulfil his dream of living in Silverton on the NSW - South Australian border near Broken Hill, where some of the series was filmed.
He moved his family from the cold climes of Bradford in Yorkshire to the Outback to show his replica black Interceptor, the car depicted as the drifter Mad Max's vehicle, and other memorabilia which he has collected over the years."

Silverton breathes Mad Max, You only have to look in the pub there as the wall is full of pics of the sets.

Really Kev? That is good because, like them or not, the Mad Max trilogy was an important part of Australia cinema history. I'm glad it is being kept alive somewhere.

I live not far from where one of the classic scenes was film in the first movie - Max and the hacksaw on the bridge - and used to drive on that bridge every day.

I assume Silverton has always got a lot of "fan" traffic, then?

I have to admit I have never seen Mad Max. Maybe Ishould, just for the history of it. Has it dated you reckon?

I'd definitely see it Claude. The original is a classic in every sense, and the sequels are pretty reasonable. It doesn't really date as it's set in a "post-apocalyptic" time frame.

Yes, it has definately dated in terms of the "style" but not the scenes, Claude, but if you can sit though it just to say you have seen it. I believe it was just as important as, say, Picnic at Hanging Rock, in terms of Australian cinema and culture. Of course, others may disagree.

Agree Chris, MM2 was also good, but MM3 was the least favorite for me, like many trilogies, the first is often the best.

Have to agree with you Duncan. It's hard to split MM1 and MM2. I liked MM1 for the local filming locations. You rarely see that sort of cinematography work done locally with such a big, cult movie. It's a personal thing for me. MM2 was equally great for the story and action.

Mad Max movies are definitely classics. My interpretation on MM1 was that it was set in a chaotic world on the brink of destruction just hanging on to a thread or semblance of order rather than being post apocalyptic itself. Certainly MM2 & 3 are set after the buttons have been pushed.
But that's just my opinion :)

I'll have to take a bike ride up to Silverton and check out the Pub, any excuse for a bike ride and a beer.

MM1 is always my favourite, love the old Kawasaki's and even got a Z1000 A3A tucked away in the garage. I'll have to agree with JJJ Stone is very dated but still one of those cult classics. Some of those old Z900's and Rickmans are still beautiful to watch cruising around.

It's more than 5 years since we were there. Every movie shot there seems to give the pub a new name. They had the signs stuck on the underside of the verandah roof.

And an Interceptor clone in the car park.

woo hoo love my madmax trilogy (A BURNT OUT DESELET SHELL OF A MAN THE MAN THEY CALLED MAX)out of the only vhs movies i have that trilogy is there the dvds are great crank the surround sound up (THE FUEL THE PRECIOUS FUEL WAS HIDDED IN THE BUS)

Chris Fraser leases the pub there ,in the younger days we used to work together in the construction industry.

Take the Z1000 out there for a cruise and you,ll get them talking.

The pub is only 20 klm,s west of the city.

As an owner of a Rickman Honda 750 and someone who appeared in a scene of Stone (the funeral bike ride up the expressway with hundreds of others) I have to agree with both you and JJJ.
At the time the movie was made, I loved it but I lived and breathed motorbikes then. When I saw Stone not too long ago on SBS, I had to have a good laugh.

I haven't seen Mad Max fully (only snippets), Mad Max 2 was very enjoyable, I only saw snippets of Mad Max 3 but what I saw was pretty horrid.

for those interested, the "halls of Justice" in the original , can be seen from the westgate bridge, travelling to geelong, just look over the south side and on the west bank..... instantly recognizable.
