Hi,

I have been looking at a EQ6 with Skyscan (advertised at York Optical for $1799). I am lead to believe that this is the same as a EQ6 Pro. Is this correct? If it is not correct what are the differences?

Thanks Matt

Hello Matt,

I think you are correct. These are the same mounts, but I think Skywatcher changed the name because of their new Black line of telescopes.

This is not confirmed by Skywatcher or similar, but I've been using both and they are the same (to me).

It should be the same.

If it only has 'SynTrek' then it's different to the pro. 'SynTrek' doesn't have an autoguider port and is not suitable for astro photography.

The upgraded back ones are usually a bit cheaper than the white ones, but they are identical. I would ring around for the best price, but $1799 seems reasonable.

Just be careful the hand controller is firmware upgradeable. Some of the early handsets could not be "flashed" with new firmware. I believe Skyscan is an older name of handsets skywatcher used. They are now called SynScan.

This post earlier IIS post (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=12398) might help a little or this (http://stargazerslounge.com/archive/index.php/t-38512.html)may help.

Anyway. If it's all ok then it's a good price indeed.
