Hi Mooners.

Can you please help :help: I am trying to identify this 'dark grey' feature on the limb of this image that has a couple of hills in the background.

Mare Crisium is at the top left.
Mare Fecunditatis is at the bottom left with the two small craters Messier A and B - their ray points to the top of the feature.

Thanks in advance.

Dead center is Mare Spumens and upper left is Mare Undarum.

do a google search for Virtual Moon Atlas and download. It's a fantastic free luna map.

I may have misinterpreted what you are looking for. Are you after the two dark areas out on the limb or an area to the very lower left that the rays are pointing to??

Hi Paul

Thanks for the reply. I have added another pic to show the area I am trying to identify.

Ok that's Mare Smythii. And right at the top almost out of picture is Mare Marginis. You might need Virtual Moon Atlas Pro for that one. I don't know if the basic edition allows you to rotate the moon to see the whole globe.

Excellent - thanks Paul - Smythii, never heard of it before until now - you learn something new everyday, forget two things a day and you learn something new again!

Thanks for helping me out!

You're welcome. Download VMA its fantastic for this sort of stuff. Just checked the Expert vesion allow you to free rotate to the back side of the moon so you won't need the full 450+ mb download for the pro version.
