I spoke to Mike S at Bintel yesterday afternoon at around 4:40. My package was just heading out the door. Went to the letterbox this morning at 10:00 and there it is. I'm not normally one to tout the successes of Australia Post after being on the receiving end of some pretty lousy service, but I've gotta put my hands together for this one.

Sydney to Coolabine in around 18 hrs is pretty damn good considering it can take 6 days (average about 4) for a letter to get here from Nambour (30 min drive away). I really wasn't expecting it before next Monday, even sent Express Post. Now I can give first light to the new VC200L :D.

At work, we send lots of documents Express Post. Never had a problem with Aust Post - service as promised. Of course, what happens after it gets delivered to some big Govt Office building is another matter entirely.

I'm happy to use Express Post as a secure/prompt system to send small items and paperwork around Australia.

I remain fascinated that, as long as I get it into a yellow postbox by 6pm in Melb, it will regularly be delivered early morning the next day to all sorts of places around Australia. Lots of folks must be up all night somewhere!

Paul - Aussie Post is a much derided entity, and often unfairly-so. Like any business they perform extremely well when conditions allow, and maybe not so when they don't - often due to circumstances out of their and anyone else's control. Good to hear.

Just a few registered post issues Chris....better left sleeping ;)

Eric, when I lived in town, I would have agreed with you about the Express Post. Out here in the sticks though it's been a bit hit and miss, 2-3 days. But I'm happy to give them the qudos for this one. I'm a very happy chappy this morning. ;)

Oh and btw the previous record for longest delivery (apart from ones that didn't turn up (see first paragraph ;) ) 17 day from Brisbane.

Good news that Paul!
How often do you get your mail delivered? If you don't mind me asking.

We have a mail delivery every day, but I can go a week or more without getting anything, and then a box full. Strange thing is though when I check dates on letters and bills that box full of mail can have more than a weeks date differences. :screwy:

Back in the dim dark past of 1953 I got a letter delivered by the postman at 2:35 PM that was postmarked 3:15 PM that day (3/4 of an hour before it was officially posted).

No big deal. We were located 300 yards (pre metric system) from the post office. The postie started his afternoon round at 2:30 PM. Before he left he always checked the in-box for letters for his round, stamped them and put them in his bag.

Congrats.

I've also had good results with Australia Post. The worst experience I've had was with USPS - $350 worth of Call of Cthulhu rares went missing...and arrived Six months later much to my very happy surprise. I got them at bargain rates, much cheaper than elsewhere, which is why I was so initially disappointed that they'd disappeared.

That certainly is good service Paul, so I will add to this.

I ordered some stuff from Kirk Enterprises in the states, it was on my door step 4 days later with a tracking No that one could follow nearly hour by hour.
Actually I did this twice in two weeks, and both items arrived on the hour they said it would, now that is good service as well I reckon.

I haven't done better than a week from the US to the office, and that was US parcel post from the east coast.

SWMBO sent her Dad a Father's Day pressie on Monday afternoon. Outer Sydney suburb to Pt Macquarie. About 2Kg. Arrived this morning, Wednesday, regular parcel post. About 40 hours.
