What do I need to buy in order to mount another telescope to the setup that I already have? Do I need a different set of Rings, or an adapter that allows two sets of rings, or a different dovetail mounting plate? These and many more questions which I haven't written, that relate, to get the answer I need.

I have an EQ6Pro and an 8" Newtonian already on it and I have been thinking of buying a Spotter Scope from Autralia Post while it is on sale for about $80 (Not sure of $.)

Hi Steven,

Not speaking from experience here, but I believe you mount the second scope using another dovetail bar and a set of tube rings.

if you have the eq6pro, then you can do whats called a piggy back mounting soloution that is you have your main scope mounted the normal way, though you need to attach the dovetail to the top of the mounting rings of your main scope.

Don't bother with a terrestrial spotting scope they arn't made for astronomical applications. your better off saving your moneys. heres a picture of my setup which is a 10" SW dobsonian with a 4 1/4 DSE toy telescope as a guide scope (its one and only use!).

Hope I'm not hijacking the thread with this but.....

....Brendan, how do you find the DSE scope for guiding, and what do you use as your guidecam?

Cheers,

Benno

It does just fine for guiding there hasn't been a time yet that i couldn't find a star even in the most void of star fields the longest iterations i have had to use is 1 second. 114mm mirror does a good job at that! (i had a look at it for clarity on objects. apart from its LACK of aperature to which im used to its just not that good :D)

As for guider i picked up a factory seconds Meade DSI ($100 bucks) which works a absolute charm, packed with PHD with .5 second iterations it guides well enough for hour long images with round stars so thats good enough for me!

Im a uni student so the cheapest possible route with the best possible return is what im looking for, for the time being.
