From my first night, Sunday.
Taken through the 8"Black Diamond mounted on the TOT.
Canon 20d
Combined with previous data to create a total of 1hr 6min. 204 frames.
Stacked DSS, processed CS3.
Short subs= lots of noise.
But thought I'd post it anyway.

Can't complain about that Jeanette. There's plenty of detail showing in the dust lanes.

Great work.

Thanks Peter. After seeing your beautiful rendition, I nearly wasn't going to post this one.

Never hold back....I've got a slightly longer focal length and a bit more aperture on my side. Of course there's the small added advantage of an equatorial mount and autoguiding also on my side. The same detail is all there in your image.

Keep posting

Nice one Jeanette.

Got great detail in there, nothing to be sneezed at.. I'm looking forward to getting more data on this one to add to the 2hrs I have already.... Of course, I can't expect this kind of detail with half the focal length, 253 is a pretty small target in a prreeeeettttyy wide field :D

Do you intend to add more data to this?

Alex.

Thats a great image JJJ, the detail and focus on the galaxy itself is absolutley spot on

Maybe the background is a little too dark, but i guess thats to help deal with noise etc?

but the actual DSO itself, i certainly cant fault.

Thanks everyone.
Yes, I scaled down the image and kept the background dark to compensate for the noise.
Peter, I'll keep the full res on file for future reference.

Crikey, with all these great images from Astrofest I am wondering, did anybody besides mwah get time to have a drink?

Not me Peter, I don't drink.

Well, I did have a little on Sunday night, only to celebrate the first night of Astrofest and finally meeting up with that Massey fellow, I must have spillt the bottle cause we couldn't have gone through that much rum and champagne . Monday night Ponders finally agreed to have a drink with me so I couldn't say no. But apart from that I only drank on Wed, Thurs, Fri and Saturday nights.

Jeanette,

I never tire of seeing this galaxy. I've had just one attempt at it, back when I had the LX90, so, that's a few years ago. And, even then, I think I got 30 minutes of data before the clouds put an end to that night.

In almost every photo I've seen of this object, the field is always pitch black. I doubt it's empty, just that everything else is just too far away to pick up any signal on.

You've done great to preserve the dusty details in the arms.

Well done!

Regards,
Humayun
