View Full Version here: : Centaurus A from Qld Astrofest - ode to Mike
I had avoided shooting Centaurus A at Astrofest as it rotated down somewhat low during the night. By the third night I realised it doesn't get much better (darker) than this, even if it was only 30-40 degrees high.
4 x 5 mins was the best I could do before a tree and roof started to get in the way (and my camera battery was threatening to quit anyway).
Bit noisey, but pleased to finally be able to see more of the surrounding nebulosity that's gets obliterated from Bris.
Canon 450D 4 x 5 mins ISO 800, calibrated, on the 8 inch Newt
(Cropped in slightly for centering too)

Rise Sir Rob for you have honoured the way of the deep dark sky capture and collected faint light of the beasts horns! Go and hold thy head high for you have proudly entered the relm of the Centaur!

Great image!!!
Praise be great Lord of the south and keeper of the sacred Astro-Physics for letting us pillage your Centaur! I feared our brief offering of photons from north of the border might not be worthy  :P

Aww Gee Mr Rob, that sure is a swell picture. I would be mighty proud to call that my own back down by the river with Miss Dolly by my side...
Not sure why I channelled Huck Finn there.
Great shot,
Cheers

Thanks Andrew. Its ok to have a plan for the night, but its nice when you have a go at a few extra things and one or two of them turn out as a nice surprise. Definitely glad I had a go now.
Thanks for the kind words Gary. :)
