Steamy Darwin

Well I am typing this on a mate's computer in Darwin. Talk about tropical. 34deg and 85% humidity. My body is leaking like mad. Thank god for air conditioners. I actually lived in Darwin on and off for 12 years, but it has been a long while since. Reckon I am getting too old to handle these conditions. I fly back tonight to good old Adelaide, and off again Friday with Rumples Riot etc etc to the Flinders rangers.

Travel and see the place - yes i'd like to do that! Is it work or pleasure that your in Darwin Exfso? I would like go to the Flinders Ranges one day, isn't there a meteor crater somewhere around there?

Ah the tropics, 32deg now and 60% humidity, 27deg overnight and 85% (Gove). Great once you're acclimatised, and the a/c is working!

The Flinders should be spectacular with all the recent rain, and the night skies will be very dark. It's been a couple of years since I've been any further north than Quorn and I'm starting to miss it :sad: . Have a good trip, I hope the weather is good for you.:)

Don't say that, I'm going up to Darwin on Monday for 5 days to visit new twin grandsons, don't know how I'll survive in that heat/humidity. It could be worse, I was going for 10 days but re-booked at the last minute.....:drink::drink::drink:
BTW I am taking my camera, do I need to take any precautions against the humidity (mould etc).

Yeah Lake Acraman is supposed to be Meteor crater. Might be the one you are thinking of.

Sorry for not announcing the arrival, the little fellas arrived on the 3rd, the first grandsons (Hamish & Oliver) for us, looking forward to seeing them in the flesh...:D

Acropolite, if you have never been there before, be prepared for a shock to the system. I have lived in the tropics on and off for 12 years, and this last time was unbelievable. The locals are even complaining. It is TRULY oppressive. This is what is called the buildup, and you really have to experience one to have any idea how hot and humid it is. Most people spend a lot of time looking at the sky praying that the clouds turn into thunderstorms that will drop their load on the place and cool things down. Without airconditioning and I mean refrigerated, it would be absolutely unbearable. I stayed at a mates place about 30km down the track and luckily he has all bedrooms air conditioned, as an example, I took my video camera out of the bedroom to do some filming, and it took nearly 20 mins before the lense cleared. It just went opaque from the change of humidity.
In my experience mould does not become a problem as such until the continuous rains start. Enjoy, your stay because it can be a great place to stay. Oh yeah when the thunderstorms start they are a sight to behold, I think probably the most spectacular storms on the planet, and this view is held by a lot of people.

Hi All,

Well, after this info,I have to wonder about a good mate of mine,who is in the Air Force,and has just chosen to go BACK to Darwin,
he spent a couple of years there,before a transfer to Williamtown,and was recently given a choice,to go back,and took it.

All I can say,is either the beer,or the ladies,must be outstanding.

i have spent a little time up there too :)
it was easy going. i spent all day in a under cover pool and roamed at night (with the aeroguard of course) :P
