While doing some research on Venus, I came across this brilliant image of the Transit of Venus across the face of the sun, in June 2004.

Details on the image.
Wow!
Found lots of other nice transit of Venus images here on SpaceWeather, too:

I can't wait for the 2012 transit. I need to get myself a Hydrogen Alpha telescope before then!
Wow how cool is that !!!
I remember my interest in astronomy was pushed along because of this transit.
I had the kids outside and we were projecting the spectacle on a cardboard sheet so we could view it safely using a small scope.
I can't wait till the 2012 either.

How good is that, what a spectacular image.
Thanks Mike for posting this.
On the subject of the next transit of Venus, there is a post on the Observational Astronomy Forum with a link to an excellent site that allows you to input your location, it then spits out the times for first, second, third and fourth contact for you.

Yep that is one fine image. Unfortunately though I doubt whether the sun will be as active during that time. New estimates are looking very doubtful as to when this cycle is going to start moving. Despite this though I will be trying to image it with a Ha scope.

Hello Sir Postalot
There have been stunning images of the Venus transit of 2004 - the next batch in 2012 will be better again (although the Sun may be a little quiet?)
I have the date in my diary and will be part of the 'global look up'.
Roll around 2012!

Just to add to Pauls doubts on the Solar Max, i read just recently that the sun has an AVERAGE cycle of 11 years, whereas it has been known to be as early as 8 years and as late as 16 years.....so i'm sure it'll come again!
