Well i have only had one go at processing this so far - this is my first attempt at processing this amount of data and trying to get a result that looks pleasing to me anyway. taken with the 20D modded canonand my 135mm L lens at f3.5 iso 800, guided with 1ponders toucam and framed to get the cross and as much of the coal sack as i could. 3 hours and 20 minutes worth of dark skies - well worth the trip.
ok stacked in Deep sky stacker and processed with PixInsight1.5:help: photoshop used to make is small for web

thanks Marc - we had a mixed bag for the week, but it was 10000% better than at home
Very nice Davo.
Good star colours and interesting framing allowing you to get both crux and coal sack.
Must've had a blast up at Astrofest !

A superb portrait of this really photogenic region. It’s as sharp as can be – that 135mm L glass must be good! Not to mention the skills of the owner, operator and processor!
Cheers

thanks for the praise, but it was Paul that put me onto the framing and EddieT with the pixinsight help - still need to work on it though, i feel like the coal sack could be more pronounced:shrug:
there is one thing i learned - always and i mean always, check your focus before starting any new target.......;) i lost a whole nights data, mind you though i captured 52 gig of data while i was there:lol::D

David,
Well done! This almost looks 3D to me. It might be the way it's presented. Anyway, for me, that is a hallmark of a great image -- one where I want to reach in and touch it.
I would prefer it a little brighter, but, that's just a personal preference.

Humayun

Nicely done David. It's hard to work with such a massive star field without blowing the main stars totally.
Well done.

Hi David,
A wonderful image indeed. Inspiring.
All this talk of 20 million bucks to find a new identity to market Australia and you have the answer right here - preserve our beautiful dark skies for future generations to appreciate. Others from all over the world will come just for the beauty and serenity of it all.
