Some Sydney harbour shots

Taken just before I'd moved from Sydney to Brissie a few years back. First time I'd tried anything like this, so pretty pleased with how things turned out. Shot on an older D60 too, didn't have the Mark IIn then, so noise was a potential issue and limiting factor. That and it looked like rain for nearly the entire night, and in fact did rain on me. And no brollie ;-)

Please note that the 800 resolution kills a lot of detail that's present in the larger images (but they are 3mb + apiece). I've had to sharpen them a bit on resize too, to prevent loss of detail from such a small resolution.

They are great!! How long was the exposure for? I love the still water.

ISO 100, 96 seconds, f22 for the first shot. focal length 23mm (this is on the D60, which is a 1.6x crop camera).

For the 2nd pano shot, ISO 100, f22, 126 seconds, same camera, focal length 26mm.

I used my trusty Manfrotto tripod and a cable release. I was quite happy with the way that they turned out, but there was a lot of PP because of hot spots from the D60's sensor. Interestingly, the D60 was the best out of all my cameras with long exposure hot spots. My old 1D was dreadful, with 100's of hot spots after 15 seconds of exposure at any ISO, and the Mark IIn isn't much better. I really do think Canon's latter gear is very poor in terms of quality. I still have the D60, tis a good lil camera, apart from crappy AF performance/accuracy.

Great looking shots:thumbsup:. I've a few old film shots from pretty much the same spot I took about 25 years ago:). Waiting on some new gear to arrive so will definitely have to go out & re-take with them

Excellent Adam - Sydney siders take their harbour for granted I think. It's a beautiful harbour full of lots of opportunities. It always surprises me how people can watch you setting up the camera on a tripod, and yet still deliberately ignore you and walk right in front of the camera as you're trying to take images. Luckily these were on a rainy night, so the crowds were down.
