Isn't that an awesome sight!

The detail they've achieved is incredible. Did you notice the galaxies behind ngc1300 shining through the some of the outer ends of the central bar. Really shows how tenuous galactic stuctures really are. They look like a solid lump of stars, but for galaxies behind to shine through like that imaging how much space we are not seeing in between the light of stars.

I was lucky enough to get the APOD book for Christmas.

"Universe: 365 Days"; Publisher: Harry N Abrams (May 1, 2003).

And, yep I noticed the background galaxies shining through too.

Fantastic pic, I sincerely hope that Hubble gets at least one more servicing mission.
