View Full Version here: : The bridge to nowhere
Under the San Remo Bridge which connects Phillip Island to the mainland...
I took these with my HTC phone (not the pinnacle in photographic equipment) on a cold morning.
I kinda like them, so here I am sharing it.

I like the shots Sab. #1 is great. I know the area well, that is a very low tide.
I believe the southern beaches of the island are great dark sites for observing.
Thanks guys...
Yes David - The viewing is sensational down there. My family has a holiday house at Cape Woolamai, so I'm lucky enough to experience the Milky Way in all its glory every few months.
Lumen Miner (mitchell) was kind enough to touch up an image I took of the stars from our balcony.

That was nothing mate. I only wish I could help more. That purple cast must annouy you. I'm sure you could improve it more.
Does it still appear when you shoot a shot with the cap on? (sorry should go back to discuss in other appropriate thread)
Beautiful photo's Sab. I love number one also.
My sister and her family and my mum and dad live down that way.
You should check out the August photo challenge, the subject this month is 'Weather', so you could enter one of your photo's if you feel so inclined.

Oh I'm going to sound like I'm a mean bugger, it's not my intention. Some honest feedback/critique (mostly in reference to image #1):
1) too centered
2) soft (focus) - it should be tack sharp from front to back.
3) light is just too bland. I get the idea of the fog and moodiness etc, but it's just too bland. It needs something to make the shot. Maybe try shooting this at dawn, just as that beautiful reddish glow from the Sun first breaks the area. Get a person in the shot, to give a sense of persective and scale.
Just a thought, why not try a wide angle lens, whilst lying down on the Sand and looking up and towards the end of the bridge?
edit: I quite like #3 - although I'd have been tempted to shoot portrait rather than landscape mode on this.
Dave
edit: I hope you don't mind, I had a crack at #3, a bit of an arty shot. If you're curious, PM me and I'll put it up on my web with a link for you to grab it.

I don't mean to come across over-zealous but...
Did you miss "I took these with my HTC phone (not the pinnacle in photographic equipment)" .
That is what I based my critic on. He has done very well considering his camera is out of action and he doesn't have a DSLR. I'm sure he would meet our expectations further giving better equipment...
My assesment stands, I think it is an amazing effort for the equipment used...

I missed the HTC phone comment (my eyes were drawn straight away to the images). Yes, that would limit what the OP could do. Yes, it's a good effort considering, but even so, he could still make them better - the lighting is bland and some human interest in the images would really help with the scale I feel.

Yes most definatley, I would love to have a crack at em' with the old DSLR.
I'm sure there is alot more there to work with...
Sab you should go back, when you get some time and a new camera/sort out the firmware. I reckon you good get some more great shots... ;)
Thanks for the interest in this one... I am looking forward to heading back and hoping for similar conditions. You're absolutely right about the lack of 'funk' regarding the colours.
A sunrise shot would really bring out some nice tones... especially the rusty colours at the base of the pylons.
As far as centering and perspective... Most of my snapshots tend to be a bit abstract. I like this one because it gives the impression of infinity.
