Hi all

I had some nice clear skies on the night of the 14th August, 2009 – when Jupiter was at opposition for the 2009 season.

Unfortunately the seeing conditions were below average, but luckily they steadied for a few minutes just before midnight – long enough for me to capture just one run in slightly above average conditions, before the seeing turned bad again.

Each channel was recorded for 48 seconds, and 600 frames from each were used to make the final RGB image.
Continuing to hope for clear and steady skies - it's just not coming this year yet.

Great detail in this one, its a good keeper for opposition.
Heaps of image scale.

Nice image Mike,

This must be close to your best for this apparition. Some very nice detail and even though the GRS is close to the limb it looks quite well resolved. Some nice detail also in the polar regions.

Cheers

Yes seeing has been the bane of most this season. Excepting Anthony of course. I had some good seeing in June but none since then. The image shows good detail but the fine detail has been killed by the seeing. Probably one of your best for the season. There is still plenty of time left though and I am sure there will be more seeing yet.

Thanks guys - it's been a bit of a drought this season. It's sure tough on motivation when the seeing just won't co-operate. Just one brilliant night would be enough to spur you on! :)

The difference was this image, was that the green and blue channels were better than the red! All my images lately had very ordinary blue channels, but this one had nice blue channel seeing for a change.
