IC1274 and surrounding in Ha

Here's 3h at the bottom of the lagoon area in 10min subs. Seeing was great at Bowen mountain Sunday night. Chased this one until it got too low west. Loads of problems with the mount and I had to throw a lot of subs so a little noisy and I expected more data but the subs that were ok turned up crisp enough to stack alright. Nice full contrast there Marc, did the mount cause a little egging of stars?
The final will be a corker if you can get more clean data.

Ooh Sensational Marc. What scope did you use?

Stars appear very slighty oversharpened to me. I didn't really notice the stars being eggy but the slight egginess would be easily corrected by:

1. duplicate layer
2. you could upsize it 2 or 3 times if you want finer control
3. set layer to darken
4. filters/offset
5. in your case the stars are slightly oval vertically so set
vertical offset as need until stars round. You may reduce this effect
by selecting fade after you have done this and reduce to 50% etc or
go ahead and do it and then reduce the image back down to the original size. Either way you may want fine control.

You can also lasso the main object and select/inverse so only the stars outside the main object are effected.

Now when happy use flatten image to fix the effect.

I just love pure Ha shots and this is very good indeed, but I think focus might have been off just a tad.

Thanks David, that's the plan this week-end. Bit nervous with the mount though. Never had any problems with it in the past. Might be sticky grease with water. Cleaned and re-lubed the whole thing.

Thanks Martin. You're right and I'm starting to get into the routine of re-checking focus now but that night I was having guiding problems and that took most of my time. One of every two subs was buggered. :doh: Of course the guiding was fine when I stayed next to the scope, only when I went to the obs to get a cuppa and come back would it misbehave. :confuse3:


Thanks Clive. Yeah there's a lot of interesting stuff in that small area. That's about 2x1.5 degrees under M8. It looks very good in RGB too as some reflections nebs lie around within the Ha emission.
