Went out into the dark forests of the mountains again last night.
God it's so beautiful out there.
Never safer and more at home do I feel under the magnificence of the Milky Way home in which we live.

Great panorama! the middle section seems ever so slightly darker than the outter frames. this is just me being picky i suppose.. It would be an easy fix if you just selected dimmer area and raised the brightness a little I suppose?
Apart from my nit-picky-ness, its a great shot of a beautiful chunk of the night sky.. Sensational little vantage point we have here on earth..

Thanks everyone. Yes there is a higher res...27MB. I will taking some darks tonight in RAW to subtract and re-process this to get it even smoother and better.
Due to the OVERWHELMING response I have had from this one image from all over the world, I am really going to put some effort into the reprocess.
Since I posted this yesterday on all the forums, and emailed it to all my contact lists, I have not been able to keep up with the return emails.:eyepop:
Obviously this magnificent display above us touches a nerve deep inside many people. So I want to do it justice.
Thank you everyone, so very much!
Baz.

Lots of colour there. Best colour I have seen of it in a long time. Looking forward to the repro!

Fantastic Baz.
I found a good panorama stitching program called Panorama Factory and it will take into account the different backgrounds and smooth the blend to hide that. I have only done a few panoramas and different background darknesses are hard to handle. This program does a very good job automatically. Google it if you're interested.

Love the composition. The trees reaching up and the dark lanes on the milky way raining down. Great stuff.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Pardon my ignorance, but does "static" mean un-guided?
If so how many 35 sec frames, were stacked for each section?
I wish I could grab those colours from my location. :)

That's right mate. Static = fixed, unmoving, still, stationary.
No Stacking.
It was just four 35 second exposures, processed and then stitched together. In fact, I think I started stitching four, but in the end only used three.
