Does anyone have any ideas on how to locate Ceres and Pallas using Starry Night? Is there a special name for them that I don't know? I have been plugging away at the Find function with Ceres, 1 Ceres, (1) Ceres etc and SN keeps telling me that there are no matches.

Am I missing something? :help:

I use EQMOD to drive my mount so I would like to find these fellas using SN.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated

Hi Pete,

What version of SN are you using.

I just did a "find" search for both targets and had no trouble at all ( I run SN pro 6).

Ceres came up as setting about now (20:39) and Pallas is new the sun so not really suitable atm.

Hope this helps

Thanks Wade

I have SN Pro 5 - seems odd that this version doesn't have asteroids. Perhaps its simply not updated as version 6 is now out.

I can feel an upgrade coming on!

Hmmm, now this is really strange. I have SN Pro5 loaded on both my desktop and laptop. At the start, both showed asteroids. Then suddenly, the desktop stopped showing them (and satellites). I checked the asteroid file, and they were all there. I uninstalled SN, reinstalled and still no asteroids. I reloaded the asteroid ephemerides, and they still didn't show (and I've had no probs adding occasional comet ephemerides). However, I still have all the asteroids (and satellites) showing on the laptop. Both versions get updated on-line regularly. At my wit's end with it! Desktop is XP Home, laptop is XP Pro, seems to be the only difference.

Cheers -

Thanks for your post Rob - I'm glad its not just me (even though I am not pleased you are having problems too).

Thanks Mozzie - I suspected as much.

I ordered the upgrade yesterday. May as well strike while the Aussie dollar is up

What a strange thing.....
I too have used SN to get the position of Pallas in the past.
It worked fine and I have shots of it.
However tonight when I checked there are none in the ephemeris.
They have all been removed....maybe an online update did that?

Looks like it isn't just me.....

More trouble last night - I've now lost the plugins for telescope control. Its just stopped operating - SN tells me I have no plugins even though the relevant file is in teh right folder.

Looks to me like SN has decided its too hard to navigate around my humble pc and so given up looking for the asteroid data and ASCOM drivers.

Tried to uninstall and re-install - to no avail.

Now I'm getting cranky - any tips?

I (or my kids) must have updated QuickTime to a later version than was compatible with SN5. I uninstalled and installed an older version - Hey Presto! I now have asteroids and my scope control works again.
