I've had an idea to do a planet oppositions page for a few weeks now, and this morning I bit the bullet and did it.

Go to the Planet Oppositions (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/?planetopp) page, which you can also find under the Resources (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/?resources) menu.

For the big 3 planets (Mars, Jupiter and Saturn) it shows the date of opposition for the next 15 years (2005 to 2020), including their altitude, angular size and apparent magnitude.

Hopefully the info will be handy to observers and imagers to plan the big years, when to buy the 18" starmaster and Lumenera camera :)

Feedback welcome.

cool.

The other useful information about Saturn that you could consider adding is the angle of the rings-they will go edge on -cant remember without looking up if its next year or the year after-and in effect disappear from view

ah good point. I was also thinking about adding distance as well, but the page would get quite busy and i'd have to split it into 3 different tables.

I'll see what I can do for ring angles.

Good page that one, even still Saturn is at a better angle this coming opposition than it was last and each year it will get slightly better. Moving up is better than moving down IMO.

Good to see that we have Jupiter for at least the next three years. And; on top of that it grows in diameter. Gives me three years to perfect my techniques.

Here's a blast from the past :)

Anyone care to update the Planet Oppositions table now that 2020 has come and gone?
