Perseid meteor from Brisbane, 13Aug09

Hi all,

I was down in the local park from about 4:30 until 5:00 (when the fog rolled in) this morning hoping to catch the peak of the Perseid shower. Only saw 2 Perseids, both about mag 0 or 1. I had the camera with me, and was lucky to catch the second one during one of the many 8 second exposures that I took. Here's the result - the meteor is just below Betelgeuse.

Did anyone else manage to capture a Perseid?

So that's what the sky looked like at 5:00ish. Totally fogged out here. :( Glad you caught it Stephen. Must be a low ZHR this year. Or maybe its peak is running late this year and it will max out early Saturday morning at Astrofest. :D

Took a few pics, but didnt snaggle any, :sadeyes: then lens got sopping wet (low fodg everywhere) - thought I cleaned/dried it, but every pic I took after that was smudgded!!

Nevermind the Perseid.. that's a nice triangle of redduns there with Aldabaran Betelgeuse and Mars ;)

Oh!! That is stunning! I really hope I can learn your skills... Last night I saw a nice peice of space junk come in over Beecroft...

At 8 sec exposures, I can really appreciate the randomness to that shot. For you to have captured that, especially with lag in between shots is particularly impressive.

I drove for about an hour -- North and inland -- trying to escape the fog. But to no avail. Being here in the Northern hemisphere I was really looking forward to it. I put my camera and tripod away without using them. :(

Good one! Persistence sure pays with meteor photography. The Perseids were a no show here, too much cloud.
