Currency exchange looks favourable - time to go shopping in the US again. :D
Who would like to join me in an order for some astronomical filters from Omega Astrofilters, outlet for the popular DGM Optics Narrow pass Band filter?

I'm considering buying one of their 2" OIII filters. I already have a 2" NPB filter which I enjoy.
When I bought the NPB filter, I saved some dollars and got the "cosmetic second". Performs well and I cannot see anything of concern with it. They advise that the only second they have at the moment is the 1.25" OIII (5 pieces). (The site seems to say different for the 2" NPB?)
Should be able to save some postage if we order together. Even if I have to post again in Australia (but maybe not since I would insist on Registered post to be safe?) Pickup in Melbourne sounds the best?
Interested? I'll want to stay under the $1,000 trigger than might interest Customs. Order in the next few weeks. Delivery was two weeks last time.

I've had a 1.25" NPB for a couple of years and absolutely love it, have wanted the 2" version as well for a while. Depends slightly on timing (I've got a lump of bills to pay currently) but I'd say I'm in.

Thanks Ron. I'll be in touch when I organise to place the order - probably early next week. Just want to watch the exchange rate - hopefully moving in our favour!

Great idea Eric. If it all goes ahead please put me down for a 1.25" HPOIII - I see they have cosmetic seconds at present too. As long, of course, you are happy to post (at my cost) to me once you have it !!
Thanks, Kerrie

Can you put me down for an NPB 1.25" and an HPOIII 1.25"?
The others can have 1st dibs on cosmetic 2nds. Full price is OK.

Thanks Andrew.
OK, that's it folks - too close to the $1,000 import limit now to take another filter.
I'll confirm with everyone early this week and on your Okay's I'll go ahead. Exchange rate has drifted a bit more in our favour - keep fingers crossed.

Order shipped about 26th August. Eric is waiting patiently (a little less so every subsequent day).

Eric,
I once had shipment from the US go missing. After about a month, lots of phone calls and worry, I rang Customs. "Yes, that item is awaiting payment of customs fees" was the reply. They had never tried to contact me in any way, if I hadn't called them, my parts would still be sitting there. Might be worth a try.
Cheers,
Jason.

Thanks Jason, I'll start with the supplier next week. Then onto Customs as you suggest. :)

UPDATE:- parcel arrived in the last week - on my desk on return from leave. No evidence that anyone (Customs) has been looking inside with anything but X-rays? About 4 weeks in transit. About double the maximum time Australia Post told me.

I should say further that my first call to Customs was very disappointing. I was told it wasn't their problem and I had to talk to Australia Post - they would give me no information at all. That surprised Australia Post when I spoke with them and they said I'd just have to wait until Customs contacted me, or it arrived. The supplier then started work with the US Postal Service to track it down.
