Sorry Ken I won't make that mistake again :nerd:
ballaratdragons
19-10-2005, 10:30 PM
Good! Don't make that mistake again. You cannot feed a server steroids or Asteroids.
A 'Server' serves. You don't serve it by feeding it. Geez, where do you get your domestic staff from? Maids 'R' Us?

I do remember Mike saying something about the site being upgraded to a better server sometime soon, maybe its already been done?

Yeah, he said that last week after the sites Millionth breakdown!

Ignore these two Narayan. They are trying to catch up to Mike.
I had no probs today. I was on from around lunchtime to about 5ish.

Thanks for the vote of confidence there Paul ;) , so is it true is IIS on a new server?
rumples riot
19-10-2005, 10:55 PM
No problems here, yesterday the site was really slow, but not as slow as some of the US sites. Today it is ok. The site is never fast, but at least it is faster than CN. That is slow there. Even with a 1.5 gig connection.
BTW, H0ughy you post way to much, do you ever work????? :P

I am having one of those you don't pay me enough to do that weeks. Between postings i am costing infrastructure projects due tomorrow for budget considerations. I even have to do risk assessments and project briefs.
I will be a good boy next week :wink2:
ballaratdragons
19-10-2005, 11:05 PM
Yes he works Paul. For IIS. Houghy gets paid $1.50 per post. That's why he is posting like there is no tommorrow!!!!

We haven't moved to the new server yet, but it's expected to happen in the next few weeks. Well, it'll be delayed a week or two now because i'm going on holidays.
But after I get back from holidays I'll be arranging it for sure.

20-10-2005, 07:14 AM
Enjoy your "Holiday" Mike. I hope you and the rest of the family have a great time. :)
In answer to Seeker's original question, I could not get access from work either. I could connect from home that night, so I assumed that big brother must have deemed my IIS time to be excessive and locked me out. Maybe that's the case for both of us. The trouble is, each thread takes about a minute to open up on my 56K modem at home so I can't skim quickly through the content. The pages got much slower when the new content appeared on the left of each page.
no problems here at the timeof the original post/

hmm that's odd, because I got a PM from netwolf the day before to say that he can't access it from work now either (where before, he could).
afaik, nothing has changed on this end to mean you can't access it from work anymore - I figured it would be a change at the work firewall or proxy to stop access to the servers IP address or the iceinspace domain name.
But to happen to 3 people (seeker, BC and netwolf) seems very odd. I'll check with the host provider to see if anything has changed.
prolly something to do with the network at his work or the security settings?

I'm on leave today so I can access the forum..funny thing is that I could access CN and UT and my yahoo mail but not IIS from my work
The blue worm on the info status bar does creep slowly to the right indicating page is loading but the page never actually loads and finally timed out..if its more than one person then it certainly may be worth investigating
no problems from home..though I use Firefox at home doubt if choice of browser has anything to do with it

I'm on super go-slow 56k modem dial-up and the site has been fine!
i am a firefox user too... not a browser issue :)

Hi guys,
As far as I can tell, it's most likely an artefact of the Cogent - Level7 argument from a few weeks ago, or a similar routing issue.
Can you provide some traceroutes?
Dave.

Like Mike said i am have been unable to get in since Tuesday. But I recall i was able to access Tuesday morning and I made a post to the fourms. Then at lunch time no access. It has been like that since. On Wednesday night suspecting something was off. I did a test from home and then VPN'd to work and found the same problem. I use firefox but it happens in IE6 also. Strange why my work would block Iceinspace and not say CN.
I also checked from my like minded astronomy loving collegues workstaions and it did not work from there either. They use IE6.. So its not just my PC.
Regards
Netwolf
PS: if your desprate try Anonymouse.org.... ;)
But you can not login.

well I could also go to CN--and also UT...
netwolf
21-10-2005, 09:59 PM
I expect its a routing issue between two Australian network points.
If someone knows of another website hosted on the same hosting company as Iceinspace i can do a test right now via VPN.

Put it this way....It took a long time to download this page (page 2) in this thread, & it has only one reply! If I try to open page 1....well forget it....No idea what the problem is. My email is down too!!! (bigpond)
(And if what I type here actually gets to this thread it will be a miracle!!???)

Are you sure you haven't got a virus on your PC that is eating up your bandwidth. Is your network connected symbol blue all the time or black (thats the little two PC in the lower right corner ) when wasthe last time you fully scanned your PC for a virus?

To cut a long story short everything is nominal. Only abnormal thing is bytes sent as apposed to received. Activity is sporadic. It's a random thing that happens a lot, but usually to do with bigpond. I can guarantee no viruses here.
asimov
21-10-2005, 11:40 PM
I'll do another scan just to make sure though.

Check the time between this post & my last one above!! THATS how long it took me to get back in here! :mad2:
No virus no nothing. One minute its this site, so I'll slip across to CN....then CN go's down, so I come back here & I'll get in for 30 secs then it will go down again. I give up! Gotta take the internet with a large dose of...something.
Jack daniels sound ok??

netwolf, seeker,
When you're at work (or via VPN), bring up a dos prompt and type:
tracert www.iceinspace.com.au
and copy/paste the results in an email and send it to me please.
Tanks.

netwolf, you can try http://avi.fm.net/ which is on the server cluster that iceinspace is moving to soon, at the same colo.

Mike,
i just checked, unfortunately I can not do a tracert as my company blocks Ping and Trace, to external IP's. I tried the other website you gave and it works but there is only one word on that website "hi".

no it has been good for me, not as bad as a few weeks ago,
As you know i am on nearly 16 out of 24 hours, and from tassie, the last few days have not been perfect but aboiut normal for me.
As I host sites with telstra, i should probabley post the outages they email me to let me know what is being serviced etc in regards to equipment around australia.
It may help the guys.

The net of late has suffered quite badly from stoppages and outages. I have no idea what the problem is but it is everywhere. Might be all the bandwidth being chewed up with ADSL. Still what ever the cause it is very annoying.

Its still hapening to me at work, if it was not for the fact that i am really busy i would be going nuts. I always check the forums at morning tea and afternoon tea. Its anyoning me, but what can i say to the IT people. Why did you block my fav non-work related site? Its tough.
