David acquired this data two months ago while testing a new power source for the obs. He only managed to shoot 9 frames - 5 x 6mins and 4 10 mins before the clouds rolled in
He then forgot about the data until this week and stacked the light frames with darks which I have processed in the past couple of days.
Celestron C9.25 using 6.3 focal reducer
Canon 40D unmodded

Looks like it might benefit from a tiny wee bit of a hint of unsharp mask (sharpening up)

Nice image tad too red IMO but nicely focused stars apart from their halo

nice contrasty colours, although maybe the background is a little too dark, and is there some sort of softening filter or something on there?

I did a mild selective sharpen with the brush tool but I'll try an overall sharpen and see how it looks thanks for the suggestion Frank

Considering the weather it was a nice surprise to have something to process until we get out again I just wonder what else he may have hidden away :lol:
Trevor this particular nebula is "red". In our original subs taken with the unmodded 40D it was totally red.
It is in the same region as the cat's paw neb which is also red.
The explanation we have obtained from different sources explains that the nebula is obscured by galactic dust which causes extinction of 10 magnitudes in the green and much more in the blue . It is an example of interstellar reddening which is the selective removal of blue light by minute particles of dust in the line of sight, this accounts for the ruddy hue.
