Hi All,
Well It finally arrived and i've had a play. There are not enough hours in a day for me.
Made a booboo of sorts trying to align the scope . When i get time i'll have another go LOL. Anyhow here is a pccy of it. Looked at the full moon and it had a slight green tinge around it that was hardly noticable.
Jupiter in a 32mm eyepiece had no noticable fringeing.
BUT OH SO SHARP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WOOHOOOOO OOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm Happy so far.

Nothing like a vote of confidence.
I used to look at the full moon with the 12"reflector not a problem.
The full moon with this beast is absolutely blinding.
The difference in contrast is hard to imagine. Anyway more on that in a couple of weeks when i get my DOCTORATE to drive the MOUNT<LOL

Hmm? a fishing rod and a 6" refractor...what more does a man need ?...oh yeh nearly forgot :drink:

I had a mates Synta 6" Achromat (same as yours basically) side by side with my 6" Astrophyiscs Starfire EDF one night at my place in Canberra and I can tell you, sure, going back and forth visually the AP out performed the achromat but there wasn't that much in it really, the AP was worth 10X the Synta but there was only a few percent better performance. I am sure you will be very pleased with your scope Duncan :thumbsup:.

Let me say i'm very impressed with the first views. At low magnification too. The moon was superb and Jupiter was crystal clear bands and all using only 32mm eyepiece. Cant wait to push it a bit. Just to damn tired at the moment. Will give a detailed report as soon as i can (with photo's)

nice to have a new toy to play with, i agree with mike, for visual theres not a lot of difference between an achro and an APO, its only when you start imaging that the pesky blue halos show up around bright stars and objects like the moon.... not something you can see visually without really really looking for it.

oh..... BTW rain is coming your way now youve got a new scope:D

Let us know how this new addition compares to your 12" "heater tank" on planets of course.
Last year I decided to buy 12" Bintel dob after reading your review, and I am very happy with it.

I'd like to buy something like that 150x1200 refractor or maybe 150mm mak?

Mate i gottatell ya this scope craps all over a 12 "Dob hands down for planetary.
Deepsky i cannot coment on yet.
I've seen the moon & Jupiter and i can only say WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I haven't had time to evaluate it all properly but so far i'm very impressed.
I won't be selling the 12" Dob tho' i'll just use it for backyard entertainment or deep sky visual.

Hi mate,

Well, 150mm is a lot of aperature without central obstruction. Looks like you bought last one 'cos I just checked and they don't have 150mm anymore, or I can not find it on their website :(

I wonder how would 150mm mak compare to that refractor with its central obstruction but with F 1800? It would be more portable thats for sure.

I am looking forward for your full report mate. It will be interesting to hear how it performs on DSO as well. Don't forget to include all particulars like:

Does it come with 2" diagonal or just 1.25?
What kind of focuser? Crayford or rack and pinion?
and so on :)

a few days have passed now since your new gadget arrived, so I'm wondering if you've had a chance to play with it yet.

I'm really interested in this scope myself, and was wondering what are your thoughts on the R&P focuser for smoothness, backlash and feel etc.

Any thoughts yet ? :thumbsup:
