This would make a great target for a spectroscope!

RA = 18h 07m 08s DEC = -33d 46'.6 and V 7.78 on the 06/08/2009 04:22:01
invisible on the 04/08

Any takers??

I just logged in to post on this and you beat me to it! Even a simple Star Analyser setup will potentially confirm the Nova type. You might even beat the pros.

LOL, needs to be about mag 4 or 5 before I'd dust off my Star Analyser! :sadeyes: :P

Got a shot between clouds late tonight, and it appears to have dimmed off fairly rapidly. I don't have a sequenced chart so I'll have to wait to do green channel magnitude estimates. However it seems to have dimmed to around mid mag 8s since the night before last. Here's the comparison:

Ah well you do need a decent camera and skies as well unfortunately ;)
I had an interesting time tracking RS Oph spectra down to mag 12 with a modded webcam a few years back

Spectroscopy on classical novae is cheating slightly though as they become way brighter at H alpha compared with what the V mag says

Too much cloud here to bother but hopefully over the next few nights.
