View Full Version here: : Evening and morning planets
*Hadnt seen the morning planets for awhile, and surprised at how low Venus was, compared to last month, with Mars above and to the left.
Betelgeuse does look bright too (re another post on IIS).
*We had another public night on beach in town, had about 60 or so rock up. Moon very bright, with Jupiter rising like a beacon over Magnetic Island.
*Nice to see a bright Mercury back in our evening skies, with Saturn above. Mercury was showing a pretty full disc, and Saturn's rings - very thin indeed.
*Last pic was before work a couple of days ago, with Moon and Jupiter setting in the west.

Congratulations on the turnup for your public night. A fantastic effort.
I've loved watching the Summer Constellations rising in the mornings, (the times that I've actually been up at that time and there hasn't been fog.:()
Liz, have you thought of taking multiple images and stacking them? Set your camera up as usual, and take 20 or 30 or more shots then run them through Deep Sky Stacker. You'll lose a lot of the noise and it would bring out the nebulosity and colour of M42. You might even get Barnards Loop into the picture.:D
You're images are gorgeous and if you can make them even more beautiful it would be worth it.
Would you try it, just once for me?:prey: Please.:jump2:

Well done Liz,
Like the colour of Aldebaran and Betelgeuse. It is great that you are involved in public out reach astronomy and sounds like you had a successful night, especially in the IYA.
At the moment astronomy has quite some momentum with new storms on Saturn and Comet Lulin earlier in the year, the anniversary of the Moon landing and the Bird Strike on Jupiter. I think this really is a prime time to be out spruking astronomy in the public arena.

Liz,
Those are really great. I love trying to get those shots but they never come out that good. Nice!
Thank you all for comments :)
jjj - I did give it a go awhile back, but found it too fiddly (person of minimal patience), but will try again ... for you
Trevor - we have had a big year up here for IYA, with the public coming to many events, and also getting a quite a few new members to our group.
Good luck in Bendigo of your talk (my home town)
Dave - its pretty much point and shoot ..... with a couple little alterations . If I can do it, anyone can ;)
