Here's another NB pic on M16 - Luminance/Red as Ha an Green+Blue as Oiii. I processed it to differentiate the colors in the core instead of having everything red as per RGB. Maybe not accurate but pretty. :)
There's a full frame at: http://www.multiweb.com.au/astro/M16_HaHaOiiiOiii_f.jpg [2.6MB]
I used the color noise reduction to get rid of the blue stars and played in PS tweaking colors, levels, curves and noise reduction.
This is about 2h of Ha and 3.5h of Oiii in 600s subs on my 5" newt.
Thanks for looking.

Marc,
That is actually quite stunning.
Amazing what a 5" instrument can pull out. Kudos to you.

I agree, a real stunner Marc. The colours I really like - unusual. That QHY8 is working really well for you with the 5".

the blue in he core area has nice definition, the 5hrs is a big effort, excellent detail with a 5 inch newt. well done and nicely processed.

The time spent in processing has definitely produced a great image. The colour blending is really well done. Terrific job

Very nice work Marc.
Your setup has delivered on this one.
And, that's a fair amount of time you've spent (sub-wise) on this object too!
I've been considering getting an OIII filter in order to create synthetic RGBs like this with the 40D. Already have the Ha 12nm filter - astronomik produce an OIII and a SII clip in filter.
Do you have a link to the Ha and OIII images used to make your image?

Thanks Steve. Yeah the blues definitely added a bit of depth.
Stars are ok. You're too kind mate :)
Thanks mate. Much appreciated coming from you.
Thanks Craig. Yes it is quite a wide field. The image scale is a bit low at 2.5arcsec/pixel but I'm working on barlowing it and get a bit closer so I have more pixels to play with and deconvolve.
Thanks Clive. The details comes mostly form the Ha lum which I posted a couple of weeks ago. It was nice and tight already. I just added the Oiii on top.
Thanks guys. Yes it worked out alright. Almost looks RGB considering that it is a narrowband image after all.
Thanks Paul - glad you liked it.
Thanks for the heads up Allan.
Thanks Troy. Can't wait to see yours
Thanks Alex.
Thanks Doug. The Ha Lum is already on these forums: http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=46912 . I've posted a small sub of the Oiii. Not much to look at though as it's mainly around the core of the nebula.
Thanks Greg - getting there with the processing side of things. Curves are so much easier than trying to balance ratios in CCD Stack. :)

The color really does it for me. Lovely image with lots of detail.

Thanks Rob. Probably because it is very similar to the real RGB colors.

Hey not bad Marc, not bad at all
Looks a bit bi-chromatic...but then...I guess that's exactly what it is? :P
Nice big dramatic FOV

no worries :)
Thanks Sandy.
Thanks Mike. Yes it is bi-chromatic :) Well, sort of, introducing green would make the neb more brown which doesn't really add to the overall picture. This one is a NB picture that looks like an RGB picture.
