The weather has been kind in Melbourne over the last week, so here is my latest attempted at imaging Mars. This would be the seventh or eighth attempted so far this year with the Lumenera, my technique is slowly improving.
Both images were taken with the following set up; Lumenera LU075C@30fps (LU075C@30fps), Meade 10” LX200 f10 + 5X Powermate, effective f/ratio of 50, Sirius Optics NIR1. Aligned, stacked, wavelet & gamma processing in Registax 3. Additional processing with AIP4WinV2 & Photoshop.

what was the main processing difference with number 2?

Can't say that I will be going to the Star Camp this year with work, baby etc.
The main difference between the two images is RGB settings, unlike the ToUCam each individual colour channel can be ajusted in the Lumenera. Image 2 just has a little bit more red then the other one. The great thing about the Lumenera software is that you can save the camera settings. I am slowly refining the RGB setting for Mars.

Nice work Anthony :) ..BTW I'm studying up on CCD cameras. Is the Lumenera still on the market? Only a n00b so I've never heard of it.

The Lumenera is avaliable in Australia and can be purchased from TurnKey Solutions. http://www.turnkey-solutions.com.au/index.html. The camera is quite expensive and retails for about $1400. Plus you will need the following software called StreamPix which cost about $1300:scared: Not Cheap.
If you wish to purcahse the camera from oversea from http://www.astromeccanica.it/ccd_camera.htm it will set you back about $2300:scared:

Nice work Anthony.. Colour balance is something i'm still working on with Mars as well.
Looks like the seeing wasn't quite up to the focal length you were using.. Have you got a 2.5x powermate or a 3x barlow to use when the seeing isn't very good?
It's a shame you can't make the star camp, but congrats on the new baby!

You might also like to consider cameras from Point Grey Research (www.ptgrey.com), they have similar cameras to the Lumenera range, but you can use them with free software, in fact they come with a capture program that you could use if you don't have anything else. They are firewire cameras and will run under MS Windows, Linux and Mac.
Check out the Dragonfly2 camera that was released last week.
The Lumenera cameras require you to buy a specialised application that costs between US$500 and US$1000 (Streampix) and only run under MS Windows.
