Jupiter August 3rd Finally some decent seeing

Hi All,

Well, it had to happen, at last some decent seeing, not the best that I have had but a substantial improvement on what has been dished up over the last month.

Have attached two of the highest res and deepest R channel images I have ever taken of Jupiter.

I suppose when the data is good enough to stack more than half the frames from a 3,600 frame avi then the seeing has definitely co-operated.

I have also posted a 150% crop of the Birds Eye from an RGB.
I have several RGB's but have run into a technical problem with them and will seek some advice before I finish processing them.

Have also attached an animation of R channel images.

Another series of beautiful, detailed images. The animation is terrific and a couple of frames in the sequence really “pop”, clearly demonstrating the vagaries of seeing and how it affects hi-res imaging.

Thanks Steve, have not had much sleep of late. It is just so exciting watching the structure of the impact region evolve night by night. I have such a backlog of data. I have been trying to work through it but I it seems that it usually time to start on the next nights captures before I have finished with the previous nights data.



So true Matt and it looks like the seeing may be good for the next few days.



Thanks Frank, I to love the animation, I know the animation is only for a few seconds however there is 8 images in it. It represents 14000 of a possible 28000 frames.

Thanks Mike, my RGB's were the best I have taken of Jupiter and when I sort out my processing problems I will post them.



Thanks Dennis, yes, when you image at this sort of resolution it does really provide a whole new perspective on the quality of the seeing.

Good on ya Trevor, nice images.

Are you adding any gamma at capture time; I am just wondering what is causing the ring in your images? I have found that any gamma can cause this.

Thanks Lester, that ring is why I have not yet posted my RGB's, they look great but I cannot seem to get rid of that ring. I have put in 2 days now trying various different processing techniques but it is still there.

I have not experienced this problem previously, mind you, I have not imaged at this image scale before either. I spoke to Anthony last night about it and have sent him an avi see what he can make of it.
