61418Today I managed to capture an image of the Moon. Big step for me !!
I used my home made dob with a Samsung digital camera. I have always liked the day time view of the Moon so at 1530 wast I set up on the back verandah and had a go at attaching camera to adapter and using two types of eyepieces. Alignment of camera to focuser wasn't too hard and I set the camera settings on auto.... (well I figured Mr Samsung knew more than me).
Anyway, here is the result. I think it is good for a daytime picture without tracking capability. :eyepop:
The scope is a 10 inch truss tube newtonion dob. Primary mirror by Tony Burke, secondary by Parks Optical, focuser by lumicon (helical).
Eyepiece for this shot is a Celestron Ultra 35mm.

I made the structural side of things. Secondary spider (?) came from an aluminium door at the rubbish tip  !!

I have constructed a tracking mount for this scope but the electrics eluded me somewhat . So it is still in the shed.

The scope is an f6. I have attached some pictures.

Lord knows when or what my next step will be.

It made it....that's one DIY scope!!!!. Actually looks more like a piece of furniture than a scope!!!. How does it perform??

Nice going Frank. Love the home job. Never seen a one-sided scope before. Impressive result. I have tried daytime Moon too, but the photo never really looks as good as the real thing when I do it. I reckon you'll punch out some good night time work too judging your day stuff.

Good work on your daytime Moon.

I too like looking at the Moon in the Daytime.

That Dob is a work of art, I have never seen one like that.

Well done on Both counts.
