Heads up SE QLDers...

The jetstream has pushed further north and we're under a reasonably good high pressure system.

If you can get clear skies...it might not be a bad night on the way, especially for planetary imagers who've not had much to smile about in this part of the world for a while.:)

I've got the 9.25 out already, in the shade, and am sorting out the DMK and cables.

Good luck!

I'm still feeling shattered from last nights effort, packed it in just after 3am.
But....if the seeings good, it'd be a shame to waste it.
Desperate to get a half decent shot of Jupiter.
Thanks for the heads up Matt.

 That's the way, jjj.

I've just finished doing a rough drift align and am charging up the power pack to run the dew heater and electric filter wheel.

Stars looked pretty nice when I took a brief peek.

Feels a little humid out there...so dew might be an issue.

Doesnmadddderrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! I'm getting out there and catching the Io transit.

Well I've been out for half an hour and to be honest, the seeing is about as bad as its ever been. In fact even though Jupiter is still low on the horizon, its wavery as all hell (more than usual that is). Maybe its just my area - southern suburbs of Brisbane.
Its still early though, so I'll try again at around 8.30pm and see what she's like.

Hmm, 3rd time lucky eh! I was out last night, and the night before, being subjected to, and entertained by, some quite abysmal seeing. Thursday night saw the stars as complete fuzz balls due to a combination of jet stream and local burn off - the localized air borne smoke particles really seemed to scatter the light.

I might just have a play around with Drift Explorer in K3CCDTools followed by a quick wiz through MetaGuide; an instrument tuning/learning session rather than a science session tonight!

Good luck to y’all in SE Qld!

Cheers

Dennis

Rod.

Jupiter would have been below 15 degrees altitude at the time you looked.

That's honestly no way to gauge the seeing.

Let it climb to at least 35-40 degrees before you decide whether it's worth it.

Fingers crossed there's some reasonable seeing tonight. We've still got some upper level activity...but I'm hopeful. You can only live in hope!!! I'll take even average seeing at the moment...it's been so bad for so long.

Cheers.
