Welcome Merlin, I do a visual S/N search using a 40cm Dob from my observatory in the Upper Mary Valley, inland from Caloundra Queensland, I mainly observe galaxies from 30deg south as they are not visible from northern hemisphere automated surveys, there are other guys up here who do CCD imaging, who I am in contact with if I need to check a suspect object.
Are you a wanting to start S/N searching, or are you already doing it?. Cheers astroron  :astron:

I used to be very active in the 80's. Used a 320mm f4 to prepare charts for Gregg Thomson, could get down to 15.5 mag from northern suburbs of Melbourne. Used Hyper 2415 and an OM1 for imaging.
Currently re-commissioning one of my scopes and was thinking of getting back into the harness.
What charts do you use? BAA... Thomson????

Charts used Thompsons,Deep Space CCD Atlas by Vickers and Wassilieff, and when required Charts from AASVO.astroron

Thanks for the welcome. I'm just refining a re-build mounting to give GOTO capability, then will kick back in. I've aquired some CCD stuff over the years and may give it a go on SN, to establish reference images if nothing else.
Any new techniques being developed, or is it still the MkI eyeball???
Ken
